Nobody understands. They look at me, and they see a young, rising Wolfram & Hart lawyer. They don’t think for a second that I’m anything but power hungry and evil. They don’t see things the way I see things.
How can they? None of them know what it’s like. Sure, they know about destiny, all right, but they don’t know what it’s like to have a destiny intertwined with monsters. To work side by side with amazing creatures that are nothing like humans. To them, anything that’s not human is automatically evil. Hypocritical bastards.
Of course, they’ve never had a chance to meet some kind of monsters. Monsters whose destinies are aligned with children. Monsters that laugh, cry and evolve. Those are the monsters that I’m trying to help, trying to defend from people like them, who only see in black and white.
I don’t have to explain myself to them. They can’t appreciate the bonds that are created between humans and monsters. So, I block them out. They can say whatever they want to say. I’ll always have my memories, memories of the digital world.
Someday, I know they’ll figure it out. Then, they’ll realize what I’ve always known.
Maybe monsters aren’t so bad after all.
