HAPPY 51st BIRTHDAY GIAP YONG!
Topic: July Birthdays

I wonder if Mr Tan Kim Yu had ever anticipated who among his students would one day become the boss of a well established auto workshop in Melaka. Well, if you're ever in need of an experienced auto mechanic whom you can rely upon, look no further - Ng Giap Yong has been in this trade for as long as we have all been away from our alma-mater. His shop is at the end of Jalan Bunga Raya, opposite the St Peter's Church. And if you don't need a mechanic, call Giap Yong anyway - this suki-nang is a good friend to have!

Giap Yong and wife Helen, have 2 lovely girls, Pui Ji who is in second year Form 6 at MHS and Pui Xiang in Form 3 at CHIJ. Pui Ji was a pioneer batch NS trainee in 2004 and did her stint at Asahan

Hobbies & Interests:
1. Tai-Chi. An avid practitioner of more than 4 years. Sessions on Mondays and Thursdays at Notredame Convent.
- - Is Giap Yong a Jackie Chan fan? Answer is a quick "No!". "Too fancy" he says.
2. The Ng family loves karaoke singing with their own set at home, especially on Sunday nights.
3. Collecting antiques. Giap Yong has some very nice Chinese antiques from Vietnam.

Notice of Birthday Today. Client: MessrsTan Hui Chuan
Topic: July Birthdays
Notice is hereby given that:- the birthday of fellow MACSian Tan Hui Chuan shall fall on this day, the Eleventh day of the month July, year 2005! In the event that you will be unable to wish him well on this happy day in person, you are hereby requested to execute your form of proxy so that your wishes may alternatively be conveyed to him. Tan Hui Chuan, Advocate & Solicitor (if you're still wondering what the above is all about...) is probably the only practising lawyer amongst us. Does anyone else have this profession? Hui Chuan is still an active courtroom lawyer although conveyance and consulting are equally important services he provides.

Hui Chuan and Jeanette have three children, Jean-Marie a fourth year medical student in Ireland, Jeremy and Jeffrey who are doing their A levels. Jeremy was on a student exchange program in Brazil for a couple of years and is now fluent in Portugese besides Mandarin, BM and Engish!

From the photos, Hui Chuan and his family obviously love to travel, and this in not confined to trips abroad as he enjoys just driving around locally if time allows. From left: Hui Chuan, Jean-Marie and Jeanette in Hongkong, June 2004; Jeffrey standing next to James Joyce (the statute, not the meddling kid!) in Dublin, Dec 2004; Family Dinner at home, July 2004 Last year's birthday dinner?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WOO JIAK CHON!
Mood:  happy
Topic: July Birthdays
Expressive, animated and interesting - that's Woo Jiak Chon aka Jay Woo.

At 51, Jiak Chon is none the less a friendly and full-of-excitement figure that he was in school, despite his share of the ups and downs in life.

Having only settled down relatively recently, Jiak Chon and wife Sharon have an adorable daughter, Woo Chung Shuet (10), who attends school at SK Seafield. Home is at USJ 1.

Jiak Chon has had varied fortunes in business and is currently involved in Soil Sub-Structure Investigation services whilst operating WJC Marketing, a business dealing with specialty products.

To keep fit, Jiak Chon jogs regularly.

HAPPY 51st BIRTHDAY, KENNY KER!
Mood:  happy
Topic: June Birthdays
Dear Ang Ee,
On your birthday may we wish you all the best and many, many happy and fulfilling years to come!

Kenny Ker is an engineer by training but is currently involved in the business of importing and distribution of industrial maintenance products, factory suppllies and government workshop renovation works. He is married to Rosy Yeoh and they have two children, Celine (8) and Leon (7) who both attend Chinese primary school in Subang Jaya. Looks like Kenny is strongly in the running for the "Youngest Family Members" Throphy! However, Kenny may loose this position soon as it seems new bundles of joy are on the way for a MACSian or two! Does any other MACSian '71 have younger kids?

What does he enjoy doing with his free time? Swimming and holidaying.

Birthday Greetings to Chye Pin!
Mood:  happy
Topic: June Birthdays
Today our 1st Tranquerah Troop Leader of 1971 turns 51. It always seemed to me that Kevin had hardly aged, always maintaining the same physique with hardly any extra kgs. However, time has finally caught up with him I think... especially as I looked at the pixs with all the children grown up and forcing upon him the relatively more senior look! Even John and Yoko aged in time and so too will (to at least a little extent, dare I say?) Kevin and Alice - our most enduring couple since schooldays.

Kevin and Alice are proud parents to two very good looking sons, Yoong Ken Yen, 23 & Yoong John Yen, 21 and a beautiful talented daughter Yoong Jo Ling, 15 whose interests include piano playing and ballet.

Home for the Yoongs is in USJ.

A pix from the past (far right): Alice and Kevin - an item since schooldays, - "Bagai pinang dibelah dua".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PATRICK!
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: May Birthdays
It's time again to celebrate another MACSian birthday! "Many Happy Returns!" to Patrick Tan Long Yong. Just look at the photos below and and you'll probably agree that Patrick has hardly changed. His secret? Must be his regular staff purchases of diary products and cereals previously from Nestle and now Kelloggs!

Pix above: Patrick and lovely wife Yeen in Bangkok, Yeen with their "bouncers" Jesper and Julian on holiday in Europe. Jesper is in his 2nd year with the University of Technology Sydney and Julian is in Form 5. Like Patrick, Jesper's favourite subject is marketing while Julian indulges in Chemistry & Physics.

Patrick's Career in Marketing:
1. With Nestle Malaysia for 17 years, of which 3 years were in Nestle China, based in HongKong.
2. Joined Gillette Malaysia in 1997 as Sales Director and made the Market Head the following year. There for 4 years.
3. Moved on to JumpKidz as CEO looking after the licensing business.
4. Head-hunted in 2003 by Kellogg's to be their MD for Greater China/SEA. Recently awarded the "2004 Gold Award" for best performance by the President of Kellogg International. Patrick says, "Work-wise, I am having FUN travelling from one country to another every alternate week."

On Staying Healthy:
"For fun and to overcome the stress level that comes with the job, I get to play squash every weekends but my knees are telling me to slow down. So did my good old friend, Dr. Koh; and Richard recommends Golf which is bad for my heart!"
A TIP from Long Yong: "At our age, please eat right and eat healthily - eat Kellogg's corn flakes!"

Tidbits:
They say you can always tell one by the shape of his head... yes, Patrick is among a group of proud Hainanese MACSians. And if you didn't know already, they say that the Hainanese are naturally good at cooking - the ever popular good old Hainanese Chicken Rice and Kopitiams testify to this! Is Patrick handy in the kitchen as well? You'll have to ask him or Yeen to find out!

PHILIP TEY's Birthday Today!
Topic: May Birthdays
Tey Boon Lean, one of MACSian's most eligible bachelors turns a year older today. He has obliged to share a selection of his photographs with other MACSians - you will find them in his Multiply Site.
As a bachelor, Philip finds time aplenty for futsal, badminton and mahjong, besides shuttling between Malacca and KL and his "second hometown" in Southern Thailand. He is a regular at both the Melaka and KL gatherings.

Occupation: Stock broker at PM Securities, Puchong Office.
Favoured Stocks - Mid-long Term: mkland, sunrise, prestar, maybulk, symphony. Recommended counters expressed here are strictly Philip's opinion and not that of the writer. Before rushing to invest your millions on these stocks, you are advised to first consult with your regular remisier/broker! In any event, we shall only be responsible for the gains, but not for any losses incurred as a result of this opinion!

Below: Double-dating - find out how Philip does it from Philip's Multiply Site. Click on to the link below to visit.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY , DOC!
Mood:  celebratory
Topic: April Birthdays
April 16, 2005 is Dr Richard Koh's Birthday!

Richard Koh and wife Sik Ha have three children, Terence (23), Heidi (20) and Darell (17). As you will note, the Kohs were early starters and can now sit back, relax and perhaps, look forward to having grandchildren soon! Richard runs his own medical practice in Shah Alam, Selangor while Sik Ha is a homemaker. Terence is already working. Heidi is an aspiring Fashion Designer currently in Singapore while Darell is in Form 5. Home for the Kohs is in Bandar Puteri, Puchong.

Hobbies: Looking after 2 dogs. An avid golfer, he laments that his handicap has remained stagnant for quite some time (but) "can play single from Red Tees!" - usually the sign of a buaya golfer! An enthusiastic sports fan who keeps track of sports events, especially soccer - those in the know say it's all because of the betting!!!.
Habits: Don't smoke, don't drink, don't gamble, don't womanise - but to quote Chye Pin, " I only tell lies".
Philosophy: Floating on the stream of life - steering clear of obstacles occasionally, coasting when the current is slow, paddling hard when the going gets tough.

Pix above: Left- Dr & Mrs Koh in Vancouver. Centre: Richard with lovely daughters in Singapore. Right: Photo taken in Melbourne in late 2003 in Rodney Tan's garden. From left to right: Mei Lin (Kam Kway's daughter), Kam Kway, Heidi, Sik Ha, Richard Koh, Darell, Mrs Rodney Tan and Rodney.

APRIL 1, 2005 IS RONNIE'S BIRTHDAY!
Topic: April Birthdays
"MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY!" One of Ron's Favourite Songs This simple entry is to make sure that I do not miss a birthdate of our classmate and my old neighbour with whom I've had many great memories, both in and out of the classroom.
We've made rockets, spear-guns and cross-bows together, arm-wrestled and karate-chopped against each other, learnt to roller skate, do wheelies on regular motorbikes and raced against each other with our cars - Ron's rear-engined Fiat 600 versus my 2-cylinder air-cooled Toyopet 700! In these very same mini-cars, we've roamed the streets of Malacca girl-hunting and group dating... And we've gone swimming in tin-mining pools and spent long hours fishing and even drove to Batu-Tiga for the then Malaysian Grand Prixs, overnighting at Templers Park to save costs. Ron had many friends and varied interests, but we respected each other always and never tried to influence each other otherwise. It is with quite some regret though that in the last decade, save for a visit I made to his home a few years ago during CNY, there isn't any communication or companionship as we went our own ways and led our own lifes. Ron, my old friend, "Happy Birthday and may you be blessed with happiness, joy and fullfilment!"
