Rules and Consequences

  1. Students will show respect, at all times, to each other, themselves, the faculty, and the property.

Consequences can vary greatly, depending on the severity of the violation.  Disrespect for the teacher would be cause for an individual meeting, with a repeated offense calling for a call home and being sent to the office.  Destruction of property could involve criminal charges, while simply neglecting to put materials back where they go would entail a loss of privileges (material usage.)  Conflicts that arise between students call for intervention in a meeting, but apparently one-sided conflicts would involve a meeting between me and the offending student.  If it is a distraction to the class, a seating change may be necessary.

  1. During any activity, students will make decisions that protect the physical and emotional safety of themselves and those around them.

Depending on the activity that was supposed to be taking place during the violation, the offending student will be left out of a future activity, and be instructed to do isolated book-work during that time.

  1. While in this class, students will display an enthusiastic attitude, willingness to cooperate, and try to enjoy the learning activities to the greatest extent possible.

Consequences for this rule will be mostly reflected in the participation grade, which makes up a certain percentage of the overall grade, and be based on much of the characteristics in this rule.  Students may be rewarded with the occasional class held outdoors for their display of these characteristics.
