GEOLOGIC PRINCPLES & RELATIVE AGE:

* Principle of Uniformitariamism - what's happening natuarlly now happened in the past.

ex. - volcanoes, rivers, erosion, etc.

* Index fossils - fossils found only at certain times in the geologic record

* Principle of Superpositon - states that in an undisturbed rock sequence, the oldest rock layers are at the bottom and each successive layer is younger than the layer beneath.

* Crosscutting relationships - tectonic activity disturbs strata and the fault is always younger than the rocks themselves

* The rock layers are called strata

* Relative age - comparing rock layers, determining the bottom layers are older than the top

* Stratified - sedimentary rock

* Unstratisfied - metamorphic or igneous rock

ABSOLUTE AGE:
