Velvet Moonlight

Velvet moonlight, born from dusk
Is all you can relate to
How it was once beautiful
But slowly turned itself
Away from the sun and into
The night, I cried.

Things became too complicated
You may have been a little
Weak. But you’re my friend
I had to be there through
It all, I felt every stab of
Vicious pain that pounded
Through your veins.

Your smile faded over
Time and soon became
history. But tonight it actually
came back as you
Told me the life you led
...all your falters.

Maybe you smiled
Because you thought
You were free but
the past followed you
Into my arms tonight.

My never-kissed lips
drank in all the truths you
Told me. Black tears rolled
down my never-caressed
cheeks. My never-seeing eyes,

Watched

I looked for an answer,
I needed to look farther
Just wanted you to know;

I prayed for you.

Pain will fade slowly
Blood will wash away
Cuts will heal in days
Scars will start to disappear
But they will never leave.

Velvet moonlight, splashed droplets
Sting at my eyes as you
Turn and leave but I know
You’ll be back.
