Duo waited all week for Sophie to call, or show up at his door, but he didn’t dare call her. He would never be able to talk to her anyway, not with her Grandfather around. But even if he did get to talk to Sophie face to face, she probably wouldn’t want to talk to him. No, the best thins was to wait for her to make her choice. And he would have to accept it, no matter what it was.
It didn’t help Duo at all though, to see the paper talking about the upcoming wedding every day. He refused to even look at the paper anymore; it was too depressing. Funny how he had no problem reading about the recent terrorists attacks or mass murders all the time at work, but the one event in the paper that was supposed to be happy was exactly what was making him depressed.
It was the day of Sophie’s wedding, and he still had got no word from her. Duo decided that it was finally time to give up. She had chosen Vilas in the end. The thought of her with that arrogant little wimp was enough to make him mad with rage, but he pushed it down and decided to go for a walk along the beach to clear his head.
He stepped out of his house and onto the each and looked around. The sun was blotched out with the threatening clouds of an approaching rainstorm. And although it was past noon, the day was dark and damp. Purple clouds billowed in the distance, and the breeze was stronger than usually. The normally crowded beach was empty, making the lapping of the waves and the hollow calls of the gulls seem very lonely to him.
He walked, letting his legs guide him, and not caring where they were taking him. He walked for nearly an hour, until he finally looked up and saw the cliff, Sophie’s favorite spot, was rising up in the distance. There were too many memories of Sophie there. He started to turn back when he noticed a flash of white in the crevice where Sophie liked to sit. He stopped and studied it. It was a person sitting there.
Curious, Duo started to head for the cliff. As he got closer, he saw the white gown of a young woman, her blonde hair flying in the wind. She looked like an angel.
Duo inhaled sharply as he looked at the woman. She looked so elegant and sweet, and sexy, all at the same time.
He came to the foot of the cliff and looked up. It didn’t seemed like she had noticed him yet. She was staring out longingly at the sea. The train of her dress flew and billowed in the wind, her hair and white veil flying in front of her face. She gingerly pushed her mess of blonde locks behind her ear and kept her eyes focused on the sea.
"Sophie…" Duo gasped.
Sophie looked down form her spot of smiled. Her exotic hair had been let loose under the long veil, the gold-trimmed white dress was a little dirty from the climb up. Her shoes sat on the ground by Duo ‘s feet.
"Hi Duo," She whispered, then she looked back at the waves of the dark ocean.
Duo stared at her in shock, but eventually got his bearings and climbed up to the ledge and sat next to her.
"Sophie, what are you…"
"Shh," She said quietly, she put a finger to his lips to stop him from saying anything more.
"I thought about you all week," She said, so quietly that her words were almost lost on the breeze. "I’m not sure what love is, but there’s no one I’d rather have show me than you." She continued speaking softly, as if anything louder would shatter everything around her.
Duo smiled and wrapped his arms around her small but muscular body. She leaned willingly against him.
"I missed you." Duo said, burying his face in her long hair.
"I missed you too, Duo." She answered. She turned her head slightly to look into his eyes. "And I promise I’ll never leave you again. Unless…"
"Hun? Unless what?"
"Unless you want me to…"
"What! I swear girl, if you ever do that to ever again, I will track you down and tie you up!"
Sophie giggled and gave him a bear hug. "Good,"
Duo smiled and stroked the hair out of her face. He sat back against the cool rock and started out over the ocean with her.
The waves were lapping peacefully against the shore, but thunder rolled in the distance. He smiled at the ocean, and then at the girl it had brought to him. The girl who came to him on the waves.
