Persimmon Festival Rally, September 24, 2006
Twenty cars participated in this rally. The Mitchell Times Mail wrote a short article about the rally results, which you can see
here.
This rally took participants on a 50 mile drive through the backroads of Lawrence and Orange counties. They visited several cemetaries, the highlights of which were seeing the grave of a man who was buried standing up, and seeing the legendary tombstone of Floyd Pruett. His tombstone is legendary because a chain appears on his headstone and is said to grow a link every year. The chain has continued to appear throughout the years, even though his headstone has been replaced on more than one occasion.
In addition to answering questions about things they saw along the way, participants also had to find scavenger hunt items along the way, including a buckeye, a persimmon seed, and a Persimmon Festival brochure (to name a few).
Cash prizes were awarded to the top four finishing cars.
In third place, winning $15, was the team of Sean Rayhill and Jacinda Johnson. They received 185 of a possible 200 points.
There was a tie for second place with a score of 190 points. Each 2nd place team received $37.50. The second place teams were: Lori Anderson & Allan Hackney, and Carrie Chastain & Doug Mosier.
Winning $100 for their first place score of 195 points were Paula Mosier & Laci Egli!
Below are some pictures taken at the conclusion of the rally. Note the really cool custom road rally shirts being worn by the staff and the ones the rally winners received.
