Welcome to Transportation - 1920's
Transportation was very big during the twenties. It was a big decade for the Ford Motor company and his Model T car. Ford invented the Model T car that had a four cylinder engine that produced about twenty horse-power. This car was priced at about $300 per car. This low cost wasn’t just any price out of the blue. The reason why Ford was able to sell his car at such a low price because of his mass production techniques, he used the assembly line. This was a line of workers in which performed a certain operation over and over again on the product and then pass it down to the next person with the following operation. Originally it took fourteen hours to assemble a Model T car, but with Ford’s mass production lines he was able to make them in one hour and thirty-three minutes. In 1925, he was producing 10,000 cars every 24 hours.
The airplane industry was not very big during the twenties. Airplanes were not used for transportation, but you could pay money for a joyride. Rides were 5 dollars for 10 minutes.
