Ann Arbor

University of Michigan. GO BLUE! Not only is the home of the blue, but also it's home for traffic signals with many backplates, traffic lights on truss arm poles, and black visors, not black faces (standards for Ann Arbor, not the whole states). If you been to cities in Michigan, it's hard to find some backplates, except for Ann Arbor. Also what's very different about signals compare to Ann Arbor and rest of Michigan is on top of a 3 ball typical traffic signal is a THRU backlit, LEFT backlit (very usual). Well, I going to show you traffic signals pics around Ann Arbor because these traffic signals in Ann Arbor are very different than the typical standard traffic signals we usually see in Michigan

Jackson Rd (BUS LOOP 94) & Exit 172 westbound I-94
Here's one of the traffic signals with backplates. 3 way cluster traffic signals on standard wires. Notice the traffic signal on the post with backplates, also. Probably can't notice that there's LED's on the red lights only on this pic. There are many LED's red lights in Ann Arbor.

Jackson Rd (a.k.a Business Loop I-94) and Maple Rd/Stadium Blvd
Here, you looking at a intersection with an almost usual traffic signal standard with "LEFT" backlit on the left turn signal and "RIGHT" backlit on the right turn signal. But, what's a bit unusual about this intersection is, if you look closely, there are two right turn signals on one assembly (One for eastbound traffic off of Jackson Rd into southbound Maple Rd/Staidium Blvd, and one for southbound traffic off of Maple Rd/Stadium Blvd into westbound Jackson. I been thru this intersection lots times before a really still remember the signal that use to be on this intersection with backplates (Ann Arbor's standard traffic signal), "LEFT" backlits for left turn signal like always, but also eastbound Jackson, only, use to have "THRU" backlits in both 2 straight lanes for traffic and "RIGHT" backlit on the one right turn signal. This new signal what you seeing now was install in July 2003 and this signal doesn't have backplates, and no "THRU" backlits. It has a "LEFT" backlit on top of the left turn signal for 4 way and "RIGHT" backlits for the 2 right turn signals on one assembly. Also on this intersection, the "DON'T WALK" and "WALK" walk signals was still in place while the new signal was there til springtime. You probably can see them, but the black on the brown electric pole on the right of the pic is a LED walk signals. Those was install in the spring.

Huron St (bus loop I-94) & N. 1st St
Ann Arbor typical signal. 8-inch traffic signal with 8-inch black visors, not the face. Same goes for intersections in Ann Arbor, with 12-inch traffic signals with 12-inch black visors, not the face. Note: the "ONE WAY" backlit with an right arrow (one of those one way intersection).

Huron St & 5th Ave
Another one of those signals with black paint, only on the visors; the expection is there are screw nuts, also on bottom of the traffic signal that what's different about the traffic signal, almost similar to most signals across Detroit and the subrubs. Note: a different labal or kind of font of "ONE WAY" backlit.

Westbound Huron St & N. Divsion St
Another usual traffic signal black paint visor woth the "ONE WAY" backlit. Not interesting, but the building, where the sun shining on the roads, is where they make newspapers at Ann Arbor (The Ann Arbor News)!!

Huron & S. State Sts.
A typical 8-inch traffic signal on the pole with backplates. But, what I most interested in on the pic is the LED walk signal. There are many LED walk signals across Ann Arbor. Shows a person walking in a PRETTY white, I MEAN PRETTY in white, and the stop hand sign in the orange flashing and then stop flashing a soild when it's on red, what you seeing on the pic, ready to do. The pharses be showing in one box of the signal instead of two, what we typical see in Michigan with the regular lights.
