BodyIraq is in civil war. It's obvious that a lasting central government is not in the cards, without a strong leader like Saddam to hold the country together. The answer is actually three answers: Give the Shiites their section of Iraq; give the Sunnis their section; and establish an independent Kurdistan for the Kurds. The country is in the process of fracturing anyway, so the best policy would be to make that separation as easy as possible.

Victory in Iraq is not holding Iraq together against the historical current of the area. A victory in Iraq would be to allow --and assist-- the formation of three new nations. Of course Iran will have some influence in a new Iraqi Shiite country, but they have that right now anyway in the Shiite area A Sunni country can support the new Iraqi Sunni nation as a balance; and the U.S. can support the Kurds. It's time to make the best out of a bad situation.
