Welcome
to Kidderminster Central District Rangers online!
About Us!
We are a group of seven
girls, the three original members (that's Mel, Rosie and Liz) set up the ranger
unit in September 2002! We meet at our local youth centre every Friday evening
from 7:30 till 9 and we occupy the room next to the guides! Our guider's name's
Gail and she does loads for us!
You can find out more about each of us by
clicking on the 'profiles' link in the drop down selection at the top of the
page! Other links include; our Duke of Edinburgh's Award page, where you can
find out which of us are participating in the award, our diary, where I
record what we get up to, our log of events for the current term, a photo page
which is being constantly updated and
finally you can also find a link to my rangers forums, especially designed for
rangers to have a chat!
About Rangers and
the Senior Section!
Rangers are basically the
next step along from Guides in the girl guiding association. You can join from
the age of 14 upwards and all members of girl guiding are considered 'senior
section' from 14 up, so you may have heard Rangers called this.
In rangers we can follow a programme called 'Look wider' it's where we have to
do lots of different challenges towards 'octants'. When we have done three
challenges worthy of phase one, one challenge worthy of phase two and one
challenge worthy of phase three, we will gain an octant certificate. True to
it's name, there are eight octants and we can also receive a certificate if we
complete phases one and two of each of the octants.
From the 'Look wider' file: "Look wider is all about giving you a
framework so you can identify your goals - and realise them. Along the way
you'll have the opportunity to develop skills tat will not just help you now,
but that'll help you throughout life."
Another programme members of the senior section can follow as well as or
instead of, is 'Making it count'. This is something for any member of the
senior section but mainly will be aimed at young leaders as part of the
challenges involve working with a unit. It is for developing leadership
skills.
At rangers we do the same promise as you do in guides: "I promise to do my
best: to love my God, to serve the queen and my country, to help other people
and to keep the guide law." The only difference is that we also have to
say: "As a senior section member, I make a further commitment to be of service to
my community."
That's your basic information! Feel free to have a look around and don't
forget to sign the guestbook!
