Program Description

Many universities offer students access to class schedules for the following semester and even let them register for classes on-line. Class registration is a time consuming task that could better be handled by a computer that can suggest class schedules according to the preferences of the student. By using a web-based Java program in conjunction with the university's class database, a student can quickly choose from many class schedule suggestions. The program would provide students by evaluating their preferences, entered before they register, and presenting suggestions and help resolve schedule conflicts and other issues thereby saving him/her time and trouble.

• GUI designs, flowcharts of program operation, and draft of class inheritance from Sang (updated with more classes pseudo-codes)
  

  Runable codes from Sang; rough versions of scheduling and resolution of time conflicts are now compliable

• Draft of database design and SQL code of database written (with much-needed help from Prof. Scharff)

• Database implemented on Sang's SQL server for testing with MySQL. Logging into the server and running test Java program to access information on remote host are successful.

  
  

• Tons of stuff up at Sang's page, where all the actions at. Methods for time preference and professor avoidance options are written and, so far, tested successfully on 30-40 runs with access to the mySQL class information database.

• New version of specification document; heavily modified and expanded: Word document (61KB)

• User's Manual, in MS Word format (167KB)

• Currently learning JDBC basics and attempting to implement the database of class information with JDBC
• Considering the possiblity of scaling down the scope of the project
