Perhaps one of the most controversial figures of the Axis Accord was Emperor Hirohito. Before the war, Hirohito was known to his people as an almost god-like figure. After the signing of the peace treaty, he was known more as a symbolic figure to his people. During the war, Hirohito was kept mostly in the dark. He made no decisions as to what happened and when he did make decisions, he was ignored. Who was leading Japan at this time? The answer was the Japanese Military Clique led by General Yamamoto. The Emperor didn't like that idea and tried to make himself more visible in politics.

Finally, Hirohito fought his way in and was horrified by what he found. Immediately, he began the process of surrender. He then signed the treaty that ended the war. After the war, Hirohito was not known as the god-like ruler of old. Instead, he was known as a man. This made the people able to relate to him. Hirohito then lived a long life afterwards. He was the monarch during a great time for the Japanese called the Showa. Thanks to the peace agreement, the Japanese also were made one of the United States chief foriegn traders. All of this let Japan have one of the most stable economies in the world
