SilverScreen 1.4

For frequently asked questions, new themes, and the latest software updates, please visit www.pocketsensei.com

Installation:
SilverScreen is installed by following the instructions included with your Palm Connected Organizer. This documentation assumes you know how to perform a "hotsync" and install third-party software.

If you are upgrading SilverScreen, simply install the new version over the old. All your preferences and registration information will be maintained. You do not need to re-enter your password. All currently registered users of SilverScreen are entitled to free upgrades to 1.4 (and all future 1.x versions).

Quitting SilverScreen:
SilverScreen is always running and replaces the standard Palm desktop. It is activated whenever you tap the "Applications" icon in the silk-screened area at the bottom of your screen. To permanently quit SilverScreen you must tap on the "Exit Silver" (fromerly entitled "Palm OS") icon found on the SilverScreen desktop or chose "Exit SilverScreen" from the App menu. This will deactivate SilverScreen. To remove SilverScreen, use the standard delete function from the Palm launcher application.

SilverScreen is designed to be intuitive and easy to use. Most of the menu items are self explanatory. Below are some feature highlights.

Registration:
SilverScreen is distributed in a "Demo" mode. i.e. Some functions have been disabled in the demo version. In particular, the user will be unable to store the theme in the demo version. Additionally a reminder screen is shown once per day during the 21-day trial period.

The user must enter a password to fully enable the SilverScreen software. To obtain a password, please visit www.pocketsensei.com.

Calibration:
In order to produce the best possible display, it is recommended that the user calibrate the screen contrast. This is done using a physical dial on some Palm devices (such as the III series) or using the on-screen display.

Due to a software bug in some Palm devices, it is recommended that the user upgrade to the latest OS available from Palm Computing. The bug causes gray tones to appear too light in value.

Users of the Palm IIIx (and IIIe) may experience an unusually dark screen in applications outside of SilverScreen running in 1-bit mode. This is a result of the screen hardware used. The program GrayContrast by Mr. Seikyou may help alleviate this problem. (PocketSensei is not affiliated with Seikyou and does not warrant the performance of GrayContrast.) Gray Contrast can be found at http://ha7.seikyou.ne.jp/home/unlimited/MacPalm/index.html.

Toolbox:
The toolbox is an array of four tools found at the bottom of the screen. The toolbox can be shown and hidden by clicking on the triangular button found in the lower right corner of the screen. Dragging an application will automatically activate the toolbox if it is hidden. Applications can be queried, categorized, beamed, or deleted by dragging the application to the appropriate icon in the toolbox area.

Hot Spots:
The two "bubbles" found at the top left and top right of the tool box can be assigned to various functions by the user. These functions are assigned using the Silver Preferences dialog. To select an application for "Assigned App", simply drag its icon to the appropriate Hot Spot.

Stroke of Genius:
The Stroke of Genius is a powerful shortcut to a variety of functions. Stroking the screen from the menu area downward will activate the "Stroke of Genius." The function assigned to the Stroke of Genius is assigned in the Silver Preferences dialog.

Themes:
SilverScreen 1.0 provides five "themes" for the user. Please note that the demo version will always default to the theme "SilverScreen". Additional themes are available in the theme archive at pocketsensei.com.

Quick Menu:
At the top left of the screen is a small icon that looks like a menu at a slight diagonal. Clicking on this icon will activate the menubar, much the same as the printed menu icon at the bottom left of the screen.

Time Tab:
Clicking on the tab will successively toggle between: time, day of week, and date.

Battery:
Clicking on the battery will successively toggle between: picture view, battery percentage, battery voltage, memory percentage free, and memory K free.
