Version
-------

This is version 1.12

Description
-----------

Arranger is an outliner with a drag-and-drop interface. Individual
items can either be notes maintained by Arranger or links to the
actual built-in applications:
Address, Date Book, Expenses, MemoPad and To Do.
Please see the documentation or on-pilot help for more details.

Requirements
------------

Arranger runs on all versions of the Pilot, PalmPilot and Palm III.

How to use the software
-----------------------

1. Unzip the contents of arranger.zip into any convenient directory.
It is optional to recreate the directory structure inside the
zip file; doing so will place the help files in a separate sub-
   directory.

To create this help sub-directory with WINZIP, check "Use Folder
Names" on the Extract Dialog Box.

To create this help sub-directory with PKZIP, use the -d switch.

UNIX users should use "unzip -L arranger.zip" to make sure that
   files are unpacked as lower-case.

2. Use the Install Tool plus HotSync applications that came with your
PalmPilot to load ARRANGER.PRC from the above directory into your
   PalmPilot.

3. Macintosh users should
   a. Get a copy of SimpleInst from one of the following sites:
         http://www.gix.or.jp/~ysuzuki/bin/SimpleInst0.1d4J.sit.hqx
         http://www.olivebr.com/arranger/SimpleInst0_1d4.sit
Install it according to its directions.
   b. Use StuffIt Expander or UnZip to un-zip the file into a folder.
   c. You can read the help file(s) by dragging arranger.htm onto
      your favorite browser.
   d. You can install Arranger by dragging it in top of SimpleInst.
It will be downloaded at the next hot-sync.

4. Run Arranger on the Pilot. It will start with a small sample
outline. Tap "Open" and try dragging lines around to see how it
works. Use Help on the Pilot and the desktop documentation to
   discover the finer points.

5. If you use Windows 95/NT, you should run version 2.0.1 of HotSync
Manager because version 2.0 has a bug which fails to back up some
data files. To find out which you have, right-click on the HotSync
icon on the tool-bar and select "About...". If the version is prior
to 2.0.1 you can get an upgrade free from 3Com at
   http://www.3com.com/palm/custsupp/readme21.html

Notes for people upgrading from v1.0
------------------------------------

1. The data format has been extended. For safety, save your existing
   files first by:
   a) performing a HotSync to back up your existing Arranger data
   b) locating the HotSync backup directory, which is something like:
          C:\Pilot\YourName\Backup
   c) copying the files
          ArrangerDB.PDB
          ArrangerClipDB.PDB
      to somewhere safe
   d) If you cannot find these files, you may be running Version 2.0
of HotSync Manager, which has a bug which fails to back up some
data files. To find out which you have, right-click on the
HotSync icon on the tool-bar and select "About...". If the
version is prior to 2.0.1 you can get an upgrade free from 3Com
      at http://www.3com.com/palm/custsupp/readme21.html

2. Install the new version of Arranger. It is NOT necessary to first
delete the previous version. Doing so would remove your existing
   data.

3. See the file CHANGES.TXT for details of the changes since v1.04.

Documentation
-------------

The documentation is in HTML format. Use any web browser such as
Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer to read ARRANGER.HTM in the
above directory. If you do not have a browser, send email to
support@olivebr.com for a lightweight browser (250K, needs Microsoft
DLLs of 586K).

To read a local file:
In Netscape: File | Open Page | Choose File | Open.
In Internet Explorer: File | Open.

The documentation for v1.12 is also available online at
    http://www.olivebr.com/arranger/help/arranger.htm
in German at

and in Japanese at

HotSync
-------

Arranger does not have a desktop component but its data is backed up
automatically by HotSync.

To restore your data, run the PalmPilot Install Tool and browse to
find the backup directory, which will be something like:
  C:\Pilot\YourName\Backup
then select ArrangerDB.PDB from within it. You can optionally
restore the clipboard also by selecting ArrangerClipDB.PDB.

IMPORTANT: If you use Windows 95/NT, you must be running HotSync Manager
Version 2.0.1 because version 2.0 has a bug in it which fails to back up
some data files.

To find out which version you have, right-click on the HotSync icon on
the tool-bar and select "About...". If the version is prior to 2.0.1
you can get an upgrade free from 3Com at
  http://www.3com.com/palm/custsupp/readme21.html
