Q-Does
it Hurt?
A-Yes,
but the pain is a quick pinch, and a mild discomfort.
Q-How
do I know if it’s infected?
A-Your
piercing will be extra sensitive to friction and movement. The discharge
might be a greenish or dark yellow color.

After
Care
ABOVE THE NECK
Septum, Bridge, Ears, Nostril, Eyebrow
Healing time:6-8 weeks
Using Bactine on a cotton swab, gently remove all
discharge from the piercing and jewelry. Get the Bactine into the piercing
by slowly rotating the jewlery back and forth. Do this 2-3 times a day
or whenever necessary. Be sure to clean the piercing in the shower last.
If cleaned after washing your hair, all the gel, hair spray, dandruff,
oils, etc. run off onto the piercing.
Avoid: Touching piercing/jewelry with unwashed hands,
contact with hair, saliva, make-up, and immersing your piercing (swimming
pools, baths, etc.)
Oral – Tongue
Healing time:4-6 weeks
Use Yellow Listerine, diluted 1:1 with water, any
time you eat, drink, or smoke. Full strength Listerine can kill off weak
cells trying to form, slowing down the healing process. Take your time
eating. Stick with foods that are softer and you know you can handle. Sucking
on ice or drinking Slurpees can help with the swelling. Chew off
to the side to avoid tearing your new piercing. If you smoke, you might
experience a longer healing period. You may also use Glyoxide (available
in the oral hygeine section of your pharmacy) to aid the healing process.
Oral – Labret, Cheek, Monroe
Healing time:6-8 weeks
Treat these the same as the tongue, but with an
additional step of cleaning the outside of the piercing. Using Bactine
on a cotton swab, gently remove all discharge from the piercing and jewelry.
Get the Bactine into the piercing by slowly rotating the jewlery back and
forth. Do this 2-3 times a day or whenever necessary.
Avoid: Exchange of saliva or any other bodily fluid,
playing with your jewelry, touching your piercing with unwashed hands,
and yogurt (which contains bacteria enzymes) and spicy foods.
BELOW THE NECK
Nipples, Navel, Madison
Healing time:6 months – 2 full years
Using Bactine on a cotton swab, gently remove all
discharge from the piercing and jewelry. Get the Bactine into the piercing
by slowly rotating the jewlery back and forth. Do this 2-3 times a day
or whenever necessary. Using Liquid Anti-Bacterial Soap, clean the piercing
in the shower. Let the hot water soak the piercing to soften any soild
discharge. Gently remove the discharge with the soap. Again, rotate the
jewelry back and forth to get the soap into the piercing, and be sure to
get it all out. Make sure that the piercing is the last thing you wash
during your shower. If cleaned before washing your hair, all the
gel, hair spray, dandruff, oils, etc. run off onto the piercing. Every
other day, you should soak the piercing in Sea Salt (available at health
food stores). Get a shot glass and mix the sea salt with hot water. Suction
it onto your piercing for 5-10 mins. This loosens up the tissue and pulls
out any discharge that might be trapped inside your piercing.
Avoid: Contact with saliva or any other bodily fluids,
touching your piercing/jewelry with unwashed hands, immersing your piercing
(swimming pools, baths, etc.), tight clothing pulling on the piercing,
and sleeping on your piercing.
