PRESS RELEASE FROM THE KENNEL CLUB

THE KENNEL CLUB LAUNCHES ITS DOGS AT RISK 'FUND'

Following the success of 'The Dogs At Risk Stand' at Discover Dogs, the Kennel Club continues to receive a great deal of communication from genuinely concerned dog lovers, all pledging their support in trying to abate the anti-dog campaign currently being perpetuated around the world.

'DAREs' (Dogs At Risk In Europe) inception arose when the Kennel Club joined forces with other concerned individuals from the world of dogs, who gave up their time to attend an informal meeting at Clarges Street on the 27 October to discuss the best way forward.

At that time, efforts were targeted at combating Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) that was being hastily drawn up in some countries in Europe. However, all attendees were aware that the campaign would probably have to extend to the rest of the world.

The outcome of this meeting culminated with the official campaign being launched at Discover Dogs with the assistance of the dedicated stand co-ordinators and attendance from MEP's, celebrities and other major canine organisations.

The Stand was a huge success and from a public awareness point of view targets were clearly met. However, concerned parties realised that there was still much work to do and therefore Crufts will herald the inclusion of a 'Dogs At Risk' stand.

Said Caroline Kisko, KC External Affairs Executive, "We have been very encouraged by the publics support regarding this emotive campaign. If this

situation is not closely monitored or protested strongly against, it has the ability to affect dog lovers throughout the world to both the dog and owners detriment. We have received kind offers of support from many enquirers and would like to now notify readers that any financial donations to help combat BSL will be gratefully received, no matter how small. The Kennel Club will ensure that the funds raised will be used to the best advantage and enable the Kennel Club, supporters and other professional organisations to fight Breed Specific Legislation in Europe and throughout the World.

If you would like to make a donation and have your involvement acknowledged, please send cheques/ POs made payable to the Kennel Club to: Press Office, DAR Fund, c/o the Kennel Club, 1-5 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London, W1J 8AB. Regular updates on the 'Funds' activities and running total will be published in the dog press.
