CUE AND FELT CARE TIP OF THE MONTH.
Maintaining table felt is not as difficult as it sounds.
The first step is to take steps to protect the felt itself from stains and
soiling. Using a protective treatment such as Felt Sentry will accomplish
this. This product is best applied when the felt is new or nearly new. It
will give a high level of protection without affecting the way the felt
plays.
Step two involves grooming the felt on a biweekly basis. There are several
very good brushes on the market, such as Felt Groom. They act to set the felt surface and
loosen any chalk build up. Lightly brush from the head of the table towards the foot.
Felt Butler is a specially designed sponge capture medium that not only sets
the pile of the felt but also traps and removes
light debris and chalk buildup. Start at the top/head of the table and
gently sweep Felt Butler towards the foot/bottom of the table, in one
direction only...no back and forth rubbing. Using Felt Groom followed by Felt
Butler will ensure your felt stays as clean and pristine as possible.
Step three involves the use of a vacuum...bimonthly and again from the
head to the foot of the table.... nuff said here.
Step four is attending to any stains/visual playfield distractions. Felt
Rescue is formulated to remove the most common stains that might be found on
table felt. Lightly mist the stain with Felt Rescue and blot with clean
white terry towels. Repeat till the stain is improved or removed. If the
stain has dried it is important to first go over the stained area the remove
any chalk dust using either Felt Groom, Felt Butler or a vacuum. This is important
because wetted chalk will harden and change the way the felt plays.
