Many people agree that it's important for people to be able to voice their opinions and thoughts openly; but others would say that this could harbour negative results in some areas. I have very mixed beliefs about this. I used to think that free speech was totally a good thing, and I still do in general, but I also think that it has its downfalls. What I mean is, I agree with the concept of being able to express your ideas openly, but I just think it's sad the way some people have chosen to express themselves, like though drugs or violence. I wish that people could just take a few minutes to think about what their message is before they put it out. Also, many people say that, for example, certain television shows or movies should not be put out, because children will watch them; but I think the most important thing is that children are educated about what's real and what's not, so that they have the opportunity to really understand what they're seeing. Censorship, at least how I see it, is a very subtle form of mind control, because it's telling us what is and is not okay for us to see, think, and do; and it molds us into believing that certain things are normal or not normal... more on this later. -Delia, May 14/00...
