| History of Reiki |
 The origins of reiki was found in Tibet , thousands of years ago. It spread to Egypt, Greece, China, and eventually into the east, to Japan, where Reiki was re-discovered by Dr. Micao Usui. At that time he was president of Doshisha University, in Kyoto.
One day, he was questioned by his students as to why they had not been taught how to heal the body, as part of their graduation. Realizing that the student's questions were valid, he decided to find out all he could about healing. Dg. Usui made a decision to resign his position at the University, in order to seek additional knowledge
He had first tuned to his Christian missionary friends, but they knew nothing. He talk to Buddhist teachers and priests, but in vein. He traveled throughout Japan and was studying at the Buddhist's temples.
After long years of studying and researching, it was in the Indian Sutras in Sanskrit that Dr. Usui discovered the secret information of healing the body throughout activating and redirecting of universal life energy through symbols. In order for him to fully understand these given information and to attain this higher level of contact he conferred with the head of the monastery in Kyoto to go to the Holy mountain of Kurama-yama to fast and meditate for 21 days.
In order to keep a calendar of the days, he gathered up 21 stones and each day he threw one away. During these days nothing unusual had happened ... until the last day.
The last of 21 days before sunrise, Dr. Usui experienced enormous vision He saw the brightest light, coming closer and closer to him. He realized that his test now had come. He watched the light grow larger as it was approaching. He realized the LIGHT had consciousness and was communicating with him. The LIGHT had to align with him, it had to ''strike him'' in order for him to receive full understanding of the healing of the body.
Because the light was so powerful, he was knocked down and went unconsciousness. Rising out of his physical body, he was shown beautiful bubbles of light filled with colors. In the bubbles were symbols, same symbols from his notes. As he received each symbol he received attunement with it , and knowledge how to use it. In this way, he was initiated into the reiki system of healing.
Dr.Usui did not remember how long this process had taken place. As he gradually return to normal consciousness he was filled with inspiration, joy and excitement and with enormous strength he did not have before he started back to Kyoto.
Dr. Usui practiced and taught Reiki throughout Japan for the remainder of his life. Before his transition around 1930, he gave the Master attunement - to sixteen teachers.
Dr.Usui left 5 Spiritual Principles of reiki:
JUST FOR TODAY DO NOT WORRY, ACCEPT
JUST FOR TODAY, DO NOT ANGER.
HONOUR YOUR PARENTS, TEACHERS AND ELDERS
EARN YOUR LIVING HONESTLY
SHOW GRATITUDE TO ALL LIVING THINGS.
