The Amazon River Dolphin, a.k.a. boto, swims in the tributary of the upper Amazon River, in the Samiria River.

The spotted dolphins swim in the crystal clear waters of the Grand Banks of the Bahamas.

The dusky dolphins swim in the green plankton-rich deep waters of the Kaikoura Canyon, New Zealand.

45 species of dolphins and porpoises found throughout the planet of Earth. The different species of dolphins not only inhabit in different environment, but the dolphins developed their on speciific behaviors, lifestyles of social organization and reproduction, and morphologies that are attuned to their special domains.

Dolphins that are inhabiting the oceanic domains are countershaded to survive all manner of threats within the tropical sun dappled blue crust of the water's upper 200 meters. In a virtual biotic desert, the pelagic animals live.

The ocean going cetaceans, behaviors as roaming are required to protect them from predators.

Riverine and deep ocean habitats as well as shallow ocean shorelines and shoals that bottlenose, dusky and Hector's dolphins frequent roam. The riverine dolphins have lifestyles and morphologies of coastal dolphins are attuened to this domain.

Coastal regions that are shallow provide protection to the dolphins from the dangers of the open sea. The coastal dolphins will do their reasting and socializing where there is a sandy or pebbly bottom that is visibly to where sharks cannot surprise the coastal dolphins.

Hector's dolphins are found in New Zealand. The number of their groups and social affiliations will change with habitat. Hawaiian spinner dolphins will aggregate in groups of hundreds to go out to the sea to feed the subgroups.
