“Now, Ms. Paine, Are you sure you locked the door?” Officer Thompson asked
Colby spoke up, “I locked it.”
The officer turned towards Colby, “You are sure.”
“Yes.” Colby answered
“Well, there is not much we can do right now. With not description it’s highly unlikely we can catch him.”
Nick looked frustrated, “So what is she suppose to do? Wait around until he comes back.”
“We advise you to be careful.” The younger officer said ignoring Nick, “If something else happens call us.”
“Thank you.” Alex said as they got ready to leave, “Um excuse me Officer….” She said looking at the younger one.
“Patten.” He answered
“Officer Patten, do I know you? You seem vaguely familiar.”
He looked at her for a minute, “Well, I was a Senior your first year on the team.”
At this Colby looked up, “Patten, like Bobby Patten?”
Officer Patten nodded and then looked at Colby, “and you?”
“Jacobs, Colby Jacobs.”
“Catcher, right?”
“The best anywhere around.” Alex said grinning
Bobby turned to Alex, “You still start?”
Colby laughed, “Does she ever. What brings you to Tampa?”
Family moved out here several years ago, then I joined the force. My sister goes to the University.”
Officer Thompson was starting to get agitated, “Well, Bobby, you will have to stop by sometime.” Colby said shaking his hand
“Yes, we have a game Saturday, you should come.” Alex said giving him a hug.
“I might do that, see you two in action.” Bobby said grinning
“Patten! We have work to do!” Officer Thompson said walking out the door.
“See you later.” Bobby said following his partner out the door.
Nick stood there with his arms crossed and glared at the two in front of him, “Have we forgotten that some psycho has decided he “wants” my girlfriend?”
Alex smiled, “Calm down Nick.”
“I’m calm!”
Alex put her hand on his arm, “No, you’re not.”
“Just get your stuff and let’s go.”
“I can’t, I have class.”
“I can bring her over after class Nick.” Colby said getting a coke out of the refrigerator.
Nick looked at Colby and then at Alex, “it’s okay Nick. I’ll be fine. Colby’s never let anything happen to me before and I don’t think he plans to start now.”
Nick still looked uncertain, “Oh don’t worry. We just have History, which is a long boring lecture that I will sleep thru and Lex will take notes and then I’ll borrow them before the test.”
“I’ll be over at your house by 4:00, promise.” Alex said smiling.
Nick kissed her, “Alright, I’ll see you later.”
After he left Alex went into her room and gathered her things. She put them in the back of the car and her and Colby went to History class, where Colby slept and Alex took notes.
