My great grandmother, Elizabeth Pope Trebilcock, was born in Cornwall, England. She was the mother of my Grandfather Alfred J. Trebilcock. I believe my Grandfather was born in Falmouth, Cornwall, England in 1893. He came to the US in about 1920. I have all this information, which I believe to be true, on the MyFamily.com, ancestry message board. Elizabeth Pope came to visit relatives about 10 years before my Grandfather was born, to Canada. She was with her husband and daughter, she visited her Sister Pope Westinghouse in a Canadian town, over the river from Detroit.
They had to return to England in a hurry, left their child with the sister, and never returned to get the little girl.........they went back to England where the rest of the children were born.
Years later, in the 1960's my Grandfather somehow found this sister Margaret, that had been abandoned by her parents .......... she resented the siblings, but finally they had a visit. They found her through a woman named Francis Westinghouse Noel, of Atherton, California. She would have been a first cousin to Margaret, and my Grandfather.......Margaret was raised by Francis' mother, as though they were sisters.
Elizabeth Pope Trebilcock is buried in Virginia, Minnesota, where she died after coming to the US to be with her children, in 1922. She is my Mother's God Mother, as well as Grandmother.
