**Apparantly Disney and Squaresoft are working on a game called 'Kingdom Hearts'. The game is for PS2, and will be available in North America fall of 2002. The game features numerous Nightmare Before Christmas characters, as well as characters from toher disney games. Also, look for familiar faces from the Final Fantasy Series. For more info check out the Official Site or a review at Gamers.com.
**Tim's next film is titled 'Big Fish', being produced by Richard Zanuck and starring Glenn Shadix. More info later...**
**Tim and Lisa Marie are split? Yep, unfortunately. Now Tim is seeing his 'friend' from Planet of the Apes, Helena Bonham Carter.**
**Apparantly Kevin Smith, co-creator of the Jay and Silent Bob duo, is not pleased with the ending of Planet of the Apes. He claims that the Lincoln/Ape cross was a concept from one of the Jay and Silent Bob comics. Tim Burton nor any representatives of the film have yet to comment...**
**It is being rumored that Fox already wants to go ahead with a second Planet of the apes. After the initial success of the remake, the studio feels that another instalment might be in good order. The project has yet to be greenlighted, and it is not known whether or not Tim Burton would be working on the project.
**There's been word going around of Danny Elfman writing and possibly directing the script for the book Undying Love by Ben Harrison. Basically the book is a true story about Carl Tanzler, a self delcared Count from Germany who immigrates to Key West. He falls madly in love with a woman inflicted with tuberculosis while working at a hospital as an x-ray technician. She dies and he spends two years worshipping her grave. He then proceeds to steal her from her tomb, taking her body home and literally mummifying it in hopes of bringing his dead love back to life. And that doesn't include the Honeymoon. A warped tale, indeed. It'd be great to get Danny Elfman to direct it, though!
-At the part where the little boy and girl received their gifts, you can just see that they are wearing Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck pajamas.
-Jack knows at first that Sandy is not a weird creature; he makes it up to impress the Halloween people. But then when he finally meets Sandy, he's acting as if he never knew it at all. Is this an act? Or is he genuinely confused?
-At the very beginning of 'Jack's Obsession' the Vampires are obviously there, and vanish as the sun appears. We are led to believe that they are gone, away from the light. Then we hear them singing again! Are they gone or not? Can they stand the sun? Earlier on we actually see them in the sun under umbrellas complaining about the light just before Jack appears.
-This is more of a pondering. Recall in Oogie's lair, when Oogie is raising the platform to dump Sally and Sandy Claws into the goo. We hear them scream, we see Boogie laughing...but have you ever wondered what's supposed to happen after that? Boogie looks puzzled, as if something was supposed to happen. It makes you think about what those guys at Skellington Productions had in mind when they were making the movie.
-When Lock, Show and Barrel got Sandy the second time, it took far too long to get there and very little time to get back. To get the Easter Bunny it took them very little time at all. Then when they finally get Sandy and are taking him away after seeing Jack, LS&B are acting as if they never knew what they were going to do with him. During the song "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" they state their intent to bring him to Oogie Boogie various times.
-This is clearly obvious, but at the scene where Jack is cutting out the 'snowflake', all that is really animated is Jack cutting a few aimless triangles into the paper; nothing that would create a spider like that.
-Also quite obvious; you know the final scene where Sally is plucking the petals from the flower and tossing them over her shoulder? Where do they go? They just seem to....disapear.
In the opening shot, when the camera is circling down on the circle of holiday trees, it seems obvious from the angles of shooting that they were working with numerous sets. At times the wrong doors appear where another one had previously been.
-And have you ever wondered, How did Jack get from the Halloween Town sign to the straw horse which was pulled into town so quickly??? At the speed of which it was being pulled, logically there would never have been the time for it. This is Halloween Town, though--anything applies I guess! ^_^
-This actually doesn't so much to do with Nightmare; but did you know that Jack makes an appearance in numerous other Tim films? Check it out; Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow, James and the Giant Peach.....go check all the films and find Jack's appearances yourself!
One last thing; many times the characters shown singing are different from those actually doing so; this is obvious upon listening quite closely.
**Tim Burton was MARRIED? Apparantly, yeah. According to his biography "Burton on Burton", that is. To a woman by the name of Lena Gieseke, whom he met on the set of BATMAN. And further information from the book TIM BURTON: THE UNAUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY OF THE FILMMAKER confirms this fact; Tim supposedly left his wife for Lisa. Kinda harsh...
**Catherine O'Hara, who did the voices of Sally and of Shock, played Delia in Beetlejuice. Also in Beetlejuice was Glenn Shadix, who did the Mayor's voice. he played Otho. Chris Saradon, who performed Jack's speaking voice, played Prince Humperdink in The Princess Bride William Hickey played Uncle Lewis in the film Christmas Vacation, and also played the drunk in the original version of The Producers. He's also been on several TV shows, including Tales from the Crypt and The Outer Limits. Greg Proops did the voice of The Harlequin Demon and the Devil.**
**Be on the lookout for Tim's new film "The Corpse Bride". It is the first picture to go into production under the San Fransisco based Tim Burton Animation Company. It's basically "an offbeat fairy tale about a young man who inadvertently becomes becomes betrothed to a corpse. The film will use the same kind of stop-motion animation techniques that Burton used in THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH."
**According to various sources, Danny Elfman will be scoring the new SPIDERMAN movie. There is very little known about this as of yet, but I'm currently looking into it.
**Ever see the Roger Corman film X - THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES? Even if you have, you'll soon get your chance to see a brand new Tim Burton remake of it. Hopefully slated for release soon, it was definately one project idea that Burton simply couldn't resist. Not many details have been released about it, but without a doubt it is most certainly a Danny Elfman score.
**A new Superman movie? Sorry folks, but no. Despite the fact that it was into heavy production, the movie was officially put on hold by the people at Warner Brothers. Things had already been put into place by the time it was put on ghold--as year had been put into it so far. Locations scouted, an art department employed under the direction of Rick Heinrichs, a script written by Jon Peters based on the DEATH OF SUPERMAN comic book story-line. The script had weven been put into final revisions by Wesley Strick and Dan Gilroy. Yet they still pulled the plug. Burton, quite upset over having wasted a year on this pointless project, was in a way relieved. In the revised edition of 'Burton on Burton' he basically states that working with Jon Peters, who was also slotted as producer, was hell. Having worked together on Batman the two didn't quite get along picture-perfectly. Said Burton,"if it had ever really had a chance of getting done, then Warners should have gotten rid of me or Jon, and then let me or Jon make the film. Jon had his own ideas, Warners had its own fears, and I had my own thoughts. And Jon, he's like a whirlwind, it's like trying to control the weather. It's a very difficult energy to deal with."
**Danny Elfman...directing? A very real possibility. It's a well known fact that Mr. Elfman has grown tired of film scoring...now he's moving on to the next level. Two new musicals are already in the works...LITTLE DEMONS and JIMMY CALICUT. There's another one that he's currently working on as well: JULIAN. All three projects have been under way for quite some time already.
**Beetlejuice...2? A very real possibilty. Says Tribute online, the movie should already be in production. Tim Burton is supposedly working on the project. There was at one point talks for another unrelated Beetlejuice movie, BEETLEJUICE GOES HAWAIIAN, but this film and the new one are supposedly two differnt plots alotogether. I guess we'll see....
**Edward Scissorhands...The Musical? Apparantly it's true. Danny Elfman along with an unidentified choreographer friend have put together some plans and word of it is starting to spread. According to Danny's brother Richard it will debut in New York City, but as of yet few plans have been made.
**Paul Reubans (Lock, Pee-Wee Herman) was in the original BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie. It's true; he was the vampire Amilyn. You'd never have guessed it by simply watching it, he looks nothing like Pee-Wee! But when I went back and checked the credits there it was as plain as could be--PAUL REUBANS.
**Did you know that Danny Elfman once battled a case of malaria? It's true. Says Danny, "pills make it less severe, but it is AWFUL. You feel like you're going to die, but you don't." Elfman got the disease while travelling in Africa. Needless to say, Danny moved back to the good ol' U.S.A.
**William Hickey (Dr. Finklestein) was in the 1997 movie MOUSEHUNT. Horrible disapointment to me (I detested that film with such a vengance). But it's kind of cool to actually see the voice behind Dr. F!
**Wonderful news, folks! Danny Elfman apparantly has a desire to come back to pop alternative music! He claims to have liked life better doing both film music and performing with Oingo Boingo. He split his life 50/50 until 1996 when Boingo called it quits, and now wants to get back into the music industry. But don't get things wrong, this doesn't mean that the band will suddenly rise from the ashes. Oingo Boingo will most certainly remain dead. In a 1997 interview when asked about Oingo Boingo's return he said, "that will not be the case. Farewell means farewell, and as we performed our "farewell" tour a year ago last Halloween, it would be hypocritical of us to announce more shows. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but, alas, that's the way it is." Of course, the next chance Mr. Elfman will have to start his music career going again might not be for a while...
**Tim Burton stared in the 1992 Cameron Crowe film SINGLES. Yes, it's actually true! I went to the video store and rented it, and it was simply delightful! You've gotta see it to believe it! I do believe it was his only role in a movie though. Guess he's better behind the scenes.
**Before the release of the Richard Elfman film THE FORBIDDEN ZONE, he made an earlier hour-long version of it entitled THE HERCULES FAMILY. It was refused by numerous distributors, however, being called a "threat to national security."
**Ever heard of Patrick Stewart from STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION? In case not, he plays the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the series. He also played a role in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Not the movie, but the soundtrack; he provided the voice of Sandy Claws.
**There is actually a movie called WHY HAS BODHI-DHARMA LEFT FOR THE EAST? Don't understand the connection here? Here it is for ya. Danny Elfman has an older brother, Richard. Ricky has a son named BODHI, who is married to the popular actress Jenna Elfman. Yes, that Jenna Elfman...the one who plays DHARMA on the hit television series Dharma and Greg. Pretty odd, eh? A Korean film first released in 1989, this movie never hit the U.S. until 1993...the same year Nightmare was released. Connections, connections....
**Did you know that once while on stage with Oingo Boingo, Danny Elfman dislocated his knee? He somehow had to push it back into it's socket before walking offstage! Eeewwwwww............
**The musical group PRIMUS has been noted for playing the Pee Wee theme at their concerts and letting people mosh to it! Said Danny Elfman in an AOL interview, "I'm a huge Primus fan and so...I was more than shocked when I heard the "Pee Wee" theme playing before they came out. To see people moshing to that absurd bit of music brought tears to my eyes. Not exactly what I expected when I wrote it."
**Danny Elfman once had a passion to become a radiation biologist. He was forever injecting flies and plants with isotopes. Good thing he didn't go for such a choice in career! Science's loss, musics gain!
