What is a pokémon?

What IS a Pokemon, anyway? This sub-page is for people who don't even have a clue to what one is, or just to refresh. Pokemon started out as a Japanese Gameboy Game, (the point of the game is explained later on) then escalated to a hit TV-show and tons of merchandise. In the game, you had to catch all 150 little monsters (called, "Pokemon") and to train them to be strong and then fight. There are many kinds of Pokemon, (the most popular by far is Pikachu) and then you had to beat the tops trainers in the world, becoming one yourself.

So what's the big deal, anyway? Why do I have a whole webpage devoted to them when they live in Japan? Well, these cute little cretures crawled out of their Pokeballs (a device used to hold and capture Pokemon) to visit the world! The TV show first invaded the USA in September 1998, instantly becoming a huge hit. The Pokemon Game for Gameboy then followed up, selling millions. There are 2 versions of the game, the Red and Blue. They are the same, but you can only get up to 139 Pokemon per game pack. To get the rest, you had to trade with someone who had a different version.

Now Pokemon is a huge hit in a America, Japan, and elsewhere. Merchandise such as Pokemon Pikachu, (a Tamagotchi-like thing) clothing, posters, and much more. KFC even teamed up with Nintendo to have a Pokemon toy promotion, with different Pokemon toys in every Kid's Meal, and, 4 different Bean Bag Pokemon: Dratini, Seel, Zubat, and Vulpix.

If you already haven't, read my page and the many others on the web to become a Pokemon Master! (After all, what other game can measure up?)

As Ash (the star of the TV show) would say, "Gotta catch 'em all... Pokemon!"
