PRESS RELEASE

NEW ZEALAND MUSLIMS CONDEMN VIOLENCE IN PAKISTAN

The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand Inc. (F.I.A.N.Z.) totally deplores and categorically repudiates the recent massacre of Christians in Pakistan as un-Islamic. This tragic act of intolerance caused by whosoever on those innocent people who gathered for prayers is senseless, shameful and totally against the teachings of Islam. Islam has always enjoined tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others as was demonstrated during the time of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and later during the period when Muslims ruled large parts of the world.

New Zealand Muslims are deeply concerned about the Pakistan attacks and call for restraint, understanding and prayer.

We would like to repeat our call on the Government of our country to urgently re-assess our commitment and involvement in this campaign, and to use all diplomatic means available to push for international peace.
