These Popeye figures were not made by MPC, but by Irwin Due to the hole in their bases it had been assumed they were made by MPC. Marked K.F.S. (Kings Feature Syndicate)owners of the Popeye copyright. 1/32 in scale. Jim McGough provided pictures of the figures in a canoe clearly marked Irwin.
Nice group of sea life animals. These have been recast in colors similar to the old colors.
These figures were made in many colors for many roles. In green as armymen, blue as police, red as firemen, white as ski troops, brown as cowboys, yellow as farmers, flesh as construction workers and other odd colors for whatever the reason. The four "shirt and pants figures (MP116-119) were made in brown and used as cowboys. These figures were quite frustrating to many kids as they just didn't look right.
FARM ITEMS
MPC made bagged (and boxed) farm sets. We think the four "shirt and pants" ringhand figures were designed originally as farmers (later included in many different themed sets). The couching figure can hold one of several tools which clip nicely into his hands. We think the two man saw listed as Auburn in PFPC is actually the MPC farm saw. Farmers were made in yellow (although sometimes blue and red were used), and the accessories in shades of red, green or yellow. The Geppert Guide incorrectly shows some Payton farm animals as being MPC. An easy mistake as some of the Payton animals are knock offs of MPC.
No.648 On The Farm, 1973. MIB Headercard set has ; 1 blue jeep with yellow driver, 1 red standing farmer (MP118), 4 tools on sprue in yellow and six animals in 4 poses in a mix of yellow, blue and red.
- Sealed card in bag with five yellow ring hand farmers and eight green farm accessories.
- Bagged Card Farmers & Tools sold by Midwest distributor Toy House. Five farmers & 8 accessories. Bag brittle and breaking apart. Contents mint.
- Bagged Card
Fun on the Farm sold by Midwest distributor Toy House. Jeep and three implements.
The small disc is made of hard plastic and was probably in the mold that made the barn found in playsets.
Please note that the larger MPC farm animals were made both with and without bases. Payton copied a number of MPC farm animals (see Payton page for a picture).
- Construction Office front with door.
Police Items
Not sure if these are MPC.
MPC 144 Disaster Squad; 8 figures + police and firemen accessories. Picture shows front and back of headercard.
- #457 Fire House with hard to find fire house and two wheel fire cart + white accessories.
- FIREMEN
MPC made all 10 their generic ringhand figures in red and sold them as firemen.
Fire Fighting Vehicles
MPC also made their military jeep in red and included it in some bagged firemen sets. They made a nice selection of horse drawn vehicles as well.
Fire Engine, no horses or hitch. -
TEENETTES
MPC 878 Mr. Teen and the Teenettes. Two hard to find soft plastic guys and three girls, factory (in Portugal)painted. Circa late 50s- early 60s.
MPC made a nice group of 90mm (3 1/2 inch) scale female teens called "teenettes". made in several colors they had furniture to scale plus quite an array of small red accessory pieces.
Teenette furniture also 90mm in scale.
- Headercard copy of a teenette at the beauty parlor.
SPACE ITEMS
Anybody have $1?? :-) Photo courtesy of John Lawson who sells at his Ebay store John's Junk to Junque.
These are most often found in shades of red, blue, white and orange.
Harder to find poses.
- PLASTOY of Canada Header Card Bag. Looks like a MPC piece to me.
The prime mover was made in army green for the World Patrol Forces playset.
MPC made an interesting hard plastic space station. Photo is missing the top piece to the "connector" section.
Fireball XL5 Items
Missing from the above photo are the large and small sitting Steve Zodiac poses. The small Venus and Steve Zodiac poses were made to sit on small "space scooters". The Professor Matic figure looks just like the character Newman from the old Seinfield TV show. These were sometimes sold in window box sets in which the figures were stapled in place leaving small holes in their bases upon removal
The armygreen examples came from the large World Patrol Forces playset issued in 1982.
NONE - Beyond Tomorrow Lunar Space Station playset as seen above. Box opened for pictures. The small white rocket has a broken fin otherwise all is mint. Not pictured but present are the under wheels for the blue rocket prime mover and one generic spaceman.
Above picture courtesy of Lynn Graves. You can see one of the individual astronaut hover crafts in the artwork to the right of the main window on the set to the left. The interior of the space command center can be see in the set on the right.

The above photo shows 5 vintage 5 inch Astronauts. The mold made 10 figures each with two clip on accessories you would twist off from the body to use. originals were made in red, white, blue, green and silver. Reissues were made of stiff breakable gray plastic in the 1990s. Gray figure in picture is a reissue to show how accessories were attached.
MONSTER ITEMS
Dated 1964. Photo courtesy of Classic Eddy's
.
John Stengel was nice enough to explain that these "glow in the dark" monsters were actual MPC production and not recasts. Sold with castle sets.
MPC made a series of some of their monsters in a 5 inch scale with heads that could be POPPED off and interchanged.
