The Old Bang-The-Ball Trick

Sometimes, one or both ball check valves in the oil pump on the Triumph twins stop(s) shutting off the oil flow in one direction, thus making the pump fail to operate properly. This can cause a lack of oil pressure, if it's in the oil feed side, or a lack of return, if it's in the scavenge side. Bad seating in the scavenge can also allow "leak-down" - oil can leak from the tank backward through the scavenge pump into the crankcase, causing wet-sumping: lots of blue smoke when you start the bike after it's been sitting awhile, until the pump can catch up with the load.

What to do?
