January 1, 1904 Splendid day very frosty in the night. All the societies paraded today. British attended service in George Street (Methodist Church) . After tea went sliding on Palk's Hill with Ern Pike, Greln & crowd of girls.
January 3, 1904 Stock taking, shop closed - not working. After tea went to Temperance Meeting in Victoria Hall in evening.
January 3, 1904 Sunday - Snowing all day turned to rain in the night - Covenant Service held in the church.
January 4, 1904 Very cold & frosty. first service of week of prayer held in Alexander Street Church tonight.
January 6, 1904 Fine day - service held in George Street (Methodist) Church in the night. Topic - The Home & School, speaker Rev. Robertson. After church went sliding on Palk's Hill had very good time.
January 7, 1904 Milder - Green left this afternoon by train.
January 10, 1904 Sunday - mild and fine. Last night we worked in hardware (department) til 12 o'clock making up stock. Went to Poor House and had a very good service.
January 11, 1904 Fine day - Went to (Epworth) League tonight. After topic leaguers were invited to the classroom where a very enjoyable hour was spent - --int & tea being provided by Ladies.
January 12, 1904 Stock finished today. Got bonus $15.62. In house all night nose very sore.
January 13, 1904 M.C.L.I. (Methodist College Literary Institute) commenced first debate tonight. Topic "Rhodes Scholarship" on vote being taken affirmative was sustained 17 to 7.
January 1, 1904 Sliding on Palk Hill mild & threatening rain.
January 15, 1904 Mild & fine all day - Trouting Season opened. Went to church after tea, first service since shop closed.
January 16, 1904 Showering a little all day, not very frosty in the mornings. News Sir. William Whiteway expresses his political sentiments showing that he is not in favour of (Sir Robert) Bond government. [Whiteway was a former Prime Minister of NFLD in whose Walter's grandfather - Capt. Edward White Sr. had served - Bond being the current Prime Minister]
January 17, 1904 Sunday - Fine in the morning but commenced to snow in the evening turning to rain in the night.
January 18, 1904 fine day- Received from Hobbies Book of Fretwork Designs - Message received today saying crew of Salver Sea had arrived at Liverpool after 35 days. At (Epworth) League tonight we had a debate topic " Chamberlain's Fiscal Policy".
January 19, 1904 Snowing a little all day - very stormy at night - gave Grant boots to make - Mr.(Hon. Augustus Frederick) Goodridge announced his intention of standing at next election in this morning news.
January 20, 1904 Storming - topic at (Methodist College Literary) Institute - Chamberlain's Policy which resulted in 14 to 12 in favour of the negative.
January 21, 1904 Fair in morning - regular snowstorm in the night - Went to lecture in (Methodist) College Hall in the evening. Lecture - Mr.(Rev. Charles) Lench -Topic "The Laughter of the Ages"
January 24, 1904 Sunday - Very mild with rain at night.
January 25, 1904 Fine during day, high wind & frosty in the night. Business Meeting of (Epworth) League was held tonight. Special feature of the evening, brief address by Miss Taylor on Forward Movement - After some debate it was decided that we consider the subject at next Business Meeting.
January 26, 1904 Fine day but frosty. Wilf. Dove married today at Brigus - Day off went down with Kearning in the morning to St. Patrick's Hall (School ?) getting notes on L ---ion
January 27, 1904 Bought ticket for --- DeBolt (Manitoba) - Went to (Methodist College Literary) Institute after tea - Topic "Has Labour Organization Fully Justified its Existance" Affirmative one by one.
January 28, 1904 General Holiday - Very cold in house all day - Horse races at Quidi Vidi.
