A newsletter for descendants & relatives of
Sgt. David & Jean (Dalgity) Scott

who married at Forfar, Scotland in 1795, and were

stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia with the Royal Artillery in 1801.

Spring greetings to everyone from Prince Edward Island! Hello to cousins and relatives far and wide. There were several timely items since our last newsletter so am sending a shorter version this time:

Clan Scott -- trip to Scotland 2026
Clan Scott trip 2026
The long-awaited Clan Scott Society trip to Scotland scheduled from June 6th to 14th, 2026 has already accepted registrations from those who had given notice of interest to the Society, and a notification about other possible registration spots is expected to be sent from Clan Scott Society to the full membership on Monday March 31, 2025
Plans include major Scott sites in the Borders and Edinburgh with highlights including Bowhill House (seat of the current Chief of Clan Scott in the Borders) and Abbotsford the historic home of Sir Walter Scott.

This is the first international event in 10 years for the Society but hopefully the start of many more. Contacting Clan Scott Society directly is the best way to be on their mailing list for future events. They indicated in the article (posted here) the address to email the organization about the trip at amo.scott.clan@gmail.com

Elm Fire Update -Elm Farm 2024
A tragic major fire on March 11, 2025 completely burned two large barns at Elm Farm in Ste. Croix, Nova Scotia destroying both the historic post-and-beam structures as well as 21 animals and stored hay. Firefighters from eight fire departments were on site for five hours with pumper trucks to transport water from the river to contain the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and equipment sheds. Some beef cattle, and a few young goats were rescued.

The loss is huge, and while building of a new barn is planned, the significance of the historic buildings, was major. The property has been in family hands for over 200 years - the oldest place with a continuous family connection that I am aware of, among the descend
ants of Sgt. David and Jean Scott. I spent my summers there with my cousins while in school. The barns were home to both a goat herd, and beef cattle as well as storing hay which was supplied to other farms.

News coverage of the fire included a video.

A GoFundMe campaign continues to raise funds to h
elp, and others are supporting the rebuilding effort in various ways. This morning a community fundraising breakfast had a long lineup showing strong community support.

We visited last in October and this picture of the high beams in the loft area shows the construction capabilities used before electricity, or power tools or heavy equipment existed. The centre portion was believed to have been over 200 years old.

This week I received news that one of our eldest family members is doing well and adjusting to her new home within an extended care facility. Nettie Poorman is over 102, and we were pleased to share her 100th birthday with her in North Carolina in 2022. The newsletter from that year shows her with various family members.

As well the linking of 215 grave memorials through FindaGrave.com into a single virtual family cemetery brings together information on many of our shared relatives. Any suggestions or help in locating information and pictures is greatly appreciated.
