Few notes:

before Tango For One:

pH introduced it "Eine andere neue" which is not quite correct.

It should be " Ein anderes neues"

translating as "another new one".

Thanks Andreas!

The red guitar is much more impressive looking in person

Amnesiac "Quiet down below" as a lyric...there were people at the bar making noise but I'm not sure if that was the reason

"I don't remember I don't recall" after Amnesiac....

"It's a mixture from here and now, and all over the place, from the last 30 years which I'm sure you'll appreciate, some things occur in the middle of the night and are neither in the past, present or future, they're just right now....... Nightman/Like Veronica

After LV:

"I don't know if we should be so happy about receiving applause for ....it's a serious song and it's serious stuff ...it's fun to play and we have a smile when we finish it but it's serious stuff.... what can I say...oh shut up and play yer guitar...."

Time For A Change
[a false start on the next one...sounded like Primo...then SG picking 'Patient' part....'no let's play something else...no....no... 'it's Modern is it.......and then...no it's something else"....

Last Frame

"My violinist in his enthusiasm has broken a string...I know normally it's my place to break the strings in .....in this case it's him.....a solo one"...and then played a great:

Touch and Go [PH solo piano]

Stuart returned with the string repaired, PH said something like "you can only stay if you're sure it's going to be stable"
Then in a rare moment, Stuart talked to the audience...."how good it was to be back at Fabrik"

Faculty X straight to Bubble without a break

Still Life [started in the wrong place or key/never heard 'Citadel' sung twice like that at the beginning......the rest was near perfect....--

Encore:

Modern

2nd encore

Said something about not being a nostaglia merchent before playing 'Refugees' and had some trouble during the middle break

Within walking distance of my hotel

Nothing against the concert hall itself or any of the staff but The Troubadour club in Southern California looks like a palace in comparision

Very high center section with a 3 tiered office area, where a few people used the walkways to watch.... [even from the back] as the night progressed and I can't possibly imagine the acoustic problems Mr. Ridout must have had but even Stuart Gordon's thrilling/screeching and soaring violin parts during 'Unrehearsed' couldn't have sounded better.

Someone will have to translate the German that PH spoke between songs.....

There were seats at Fabrik and a very quiet audience

Met Dagmar and Ian in person for the first time!

I had intended to see the entire tour but couldn't find a ride to the next one at Karlsruhe and the train seemed too expensive; also no guarantee on getting to Austria for the 2 after that, so decided to stay in Hamburg for a couple of extra days and then get to Linz for the 16th

From PH7 Jens R

Unrehearsed (Stuart maniacaly)
This one really sounded even more unrehearsed than usual. Made me remember a story involving some guy who's very good at losing keys, which I did finally finish reading last week, in order to celebrate the real Millenium (nice one, Charlotte ;-).

Tango for One
xxx
(Guitar; the new red one)
Amnesiac (overwhelming guitarplaying and powerfull)
Shingle Song (beautifull; Stuart a great role)
Nightman
Like Veronica

As much as I like this song musically, it always gives me a rather strange feeling listening to the lyrics. And the way Stuart did treat his violin while being illuminated in a dark, glowing red by a pair of lights standing on the stage directly in front of him, certainly did add its share to this.

Time for a Change
What a change, really. I kept glancing to and fro between Peter and Dagmar, who was sitting beside the stage, and both seemed to be experiencing a certain amount of memories of the Amsterdam incident coming up. Peter then managed to avoid any chance of having another one by stretching the "learn to be mee..eee..eee" as long as possible and immediately follow up with the "Switch"-part.

Ophelia (Stuart breaks a string)

If my memory doesn't betray me, this song wasn't Ophelia, but Last Frame. And it was a last minute change to the setlist, because both players had already begun plucking the first "Patient" notes, when Peter suddenly said "Oh no, Stuart, lets play a different song."

xxx
(Keyboard)
Touch and Go (solo)
..? (Forgot to write this one down; sorry, Stuart came back and was = talking into the microphone and the song continued in Faculty X)

Was there really another song? I can't remember anything missing from your list, and it was Fac X continuing into Bubble, wasn't it? We'll probably have to wait for another review written by someone less amnesiastic to find out ...

Faculty X ('K, 'K, 'K, 'K.....)
Bubble
Still Life (as always very impressive)

xxx
Encores (Guitar)
Modern (shouting)
Refugees (Audience very excited by the first tunes)

Though I cannot completely exclude the possibility that I did pass out for some time during this song because it was so beautiful, it seemes to me that Peter did leave out (or forget) the southern verse, at least if I did follow the diagram from "Shout", which popped up before my third eye, correctly. Maybe he also was afraid to talk about South in such a northern location like Hamburg...

From Jaap:

Hi,
Just came back from Hamburg where I attended the first show of the German/Austrian tour. Great!!! About 400 people were in the Fabrik (Factory).

It is an old factory and very suitable for concerts. Not because of the accoustics (in contrary!), but for reasons of atmosphere. All the material, the columns included, exists of wood. In the centre they had put chairs and at both sides there were upgoing seats. But because of the columns not every spot was that good. The audience was very, very enthousiastic. Most 40++, but also a grandmother (?; 70+) and someone brought his daughter (10). Typical was that during the show people were getting their beer (Hefeweizen is a special Germain beer) and one of the bartenders was collecting the empty glasses. But that just belongs to the Fabrik. I remember that every Sunday morning people go there drinking beer (shoppen) and it is always very sociable. Dagmar was selling PH- and her own cd's and of cours her book "Shouting down the passage of time". After the show I got my copy, and signed by Dagmar (thanks Dagmar!).

And now a little review of the show. PH was in the paper announced as "the magical voice from England" who states the "l'art pour l'art". They were = right. My hosts said afterwards that they liked the voice, but not the magical aspect. Peter and Stuart too (!!!) were very driven.

I think Stuart is getting a more important role, and he deserves it. While playing Last Frame a string of his violin broke. Stuart went back stage and Peter continued solo on keyboard. Just after finishing Touch and Go, Stuart came back, walked to the microphone and told he was very glad to be back in the Fabrik and when it was for the last time. A couple of times one song went into another, so there was no possibility for applause. The audience were very excited, and Peter and Stuart as well. Every person in the Fabrik now knows that Peter can't live under water (end of Modern). Brilliant and shivering!!!

_______________________________________________________ MORE FROM ME:

I couldn't find too many people that spoke English and didn't ask around enough for a ride to Karlsruhe [next concert was on the 10th]

I checked at the airport about train costs when I picked up my lost luggage and was given a price of $185 DM [about $95 US] for a train from Hamburg to Karlsruhe---This actually is quite reasonable and what I should have done, but it seemed that it would then be about that much for the next 2 [Including Austria] and I decided to gamble and save some money and of course lost

I spent a total of 5 nights in Hamburg and really don't know what I was thinking
Certainly didn't have any fun except for the concert;

first night here:

second night here:

The last 3 nights spent here:

A nice place, however, I did go out one night [10PM or so] , as I left I noticed quite a few people in the bar of the hotel.......when I came back at 1:45 AM there was still quite a crowd there...I asked the bartender for a beer....."We have no beer here"...that was a first....A bar without any beer...what next, a hotel without any guests?....He said this is "A Closed Society"....no beer.....

A closed society...what's that? A meeting of the masons?.....I couldn't believe it....People at the bar staring at me...I said "I am a guest here, I do have a room and showed him my key..." He was very angry and then went all red faced.....and apologized....."I'm so sorry"....they had some sort of private birthday party.....or who knows what....he was very sorry as he should have been.....days in Hamburg get long..........

Late thanks...........

One of these days in Hamburg... I needed to get back to the airport from the train station....[you need a bus].....I could not find any directions on how to get to THE bus.... ......I'm not sure where I was......There were signs on a wall but none pointed in any direction......

ONE SAID BUS 211........GREAT ....which way??

NO INDICATION on the WALL

Nobody speaks English......I can't find any help----I ask everyone I see....freezing cold by the way...

BIG SIGN ON THE WALL "BUS 211"------but no directions!!!!THANK YOU EINSTEIN!!!

Asked about 10 people in this dark tunnel, 'Do you speak English...can you help....?" ...Very desperate at this point....after a while.....a young teenage/college girl was walking along, . .Didn't speak English but I pointed at the sign "WHICH WAY?"...throwing my arms in the air...

She seemed to know the way....

Ran out of the terminal....motioning for me to come behind....then crossed traffic through a very busy street.......

The bus I needed had just arrived....she then talked to the bus driver and made sure this was the one I needed.....and then left...and went back to the terminal and on with her life.......I tried to give her money but she wouldn't take it......Thanks again to whoever that was-

Eventually took an overnight train to Linz after missing the early one at 5pm by 5 minutes
