Virginia Disaster Intervention Site

Natural Hazards Center
Located at the University of Colorado, Boulder. A national and international
clearinghouse for information on natural hazards and human adjustments to
hazards and disasters. Has four principal missions: information dissemination,
annual workshop, research, and library services. Their prime goal is to
increase communication among hazard/disaster researchers and individuals,
agencies and organizations actively working to reduce disaster damage and
suffering.
Pacific Disaster Management Information Network
Center of Excellence in disaster and humanitarian assistance. Developed as a
direct result of lessons learned in recent crises in the Middle East, Sub-
Saharan Africa, and the Balkans. Mission is to facilitate civil-military
operations and cooperation through integrated education, training, research,
information management and operational readiness. A World Health Organization/
Pan-American Health Organization Collaborating Center for humanitarian civil-
military cooperation.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
The NTSB is an independent Federal agency which is charged by Congress with
investigating every civil aviation accident in the United States and
significant accidents in the other modes of transportation - railroad,
highway, marine and pipeline - and issuing safety recommendations aimed at
preventing future accidents. The NTSB is responsible for maintaining the
government's data base on civil aviation accidents and also conducts special
studies of transportation safety issues of national significance.
National Air Disaster Alliance/Foundation
Their mission is to raise the standards of safety, security and survivability
for commercial aviation passengers and for support of victim's families. NADA
is a non-profit organization. This site offers information about NADA initiatives
and has links to related organizations, including support groups formed
following air disasters. Purpose includes informing the flying public on
critical issues and advocating for legislation and reform.

They have recently signed a letter of agreement with the American Red Cross
