Towards The Classification Of Disasters And Victims

DISASTER AND VICTIM CLASSIFICATION
An emerging system for classifying previously disparate phenomena relating to
disasters and victims is presented, and its rationale given, with the thought
that others might also find it helpful to use in their remedial and clinical
work and offer improvements. The justification is that the combined topics are
commanding widespread attention, and a satisfactory classificatory system needs
to be developed to facilitate further inquiry into the factors that underlie
them. The scheme was borne of necessity after the DC10 aircrash in Antarctica in
1979, when reports of previous research studies were widely scattered conceptually
and typographically, and its development was made to satisfy pragmatic rather
than esoteric needs.
