Status: Fact but copy cats could be on the way. We want to stress that this worm does not spread via phones. This worm is a new Visual Basic Script that spreads using Microsoft Outlook. Users should update their Anti-Virus products and be on the look out for copy cats of this virus in the United States. This worm is dangerous because of it's destructive payload. The worm is also the first to affect (not infect) cell phone/handheld computer devices. The message will come to users in a email message that looks like the following. subject: TIMOFONICA
Once executed the worm drops a file named CMOS.COM in the Windows system directory and adds the registry key that will execute when the system is rebooted. CMOS.COM is a trojan horse that is capable of corrupting your CMOS and boot information. The worm then uses MS Outlook to send itself to every address in your address book. For each entry in the address book the worm will also send a message to a subscriber of the movistar.net service. The address to which the message is sent consists of one of the following randomly chosen prefixes (609, 619, 629, 630, 639, 646, 649 or 696) and a 6 digit randomly generated number. | ||||||||
