Hip and Elbow X-Rays of Filas - A Comparison

OFA Good
This x-ray is of a Fila who was evaluated by OFA as being 'Good'. You can see that the hip joint (femoral head and acetabulum) is clean and well shaped. Also there is not an excess of sub-luxation - meaning the ball and socket are tightly fitted.

Dysplastic
This x-ray clearly shows the bilateral excess of sub-luxation of the femoral head and the acetabulum. This dog is considered to be dysplastic. To repair this dog's hips could cost anywhere from $2,000 - $4,500 PER HIP.

OFA Normal
This x-ray is of a Fila who was evaluated by OFA as being normal. Again, you can see the clean edges of the articulating surfaces, as well as a lack of fissures or cracks at the location of the growth plates.

Dysplastic - UAP UAP Repaired via surgery
The x-ray on the left was evaluated by OFA as being dysplastic. This dog suffers from UAP (Ununited Anconeal Process) which means that the growth plates of the rear of the elbow didn't fuse properly and caused this 'break' in the joint that you see. The x-ray on the right shows the same elbow after a special surgery was performed to remove the ununited section of bone. This surgery can cost anywhere from $1,200 - $2,500 PER ELBOW.
