Significance:
The research studied the feasibility of applying statistical process control (SPC-BiomedQC charts) analysis to data collected from patient monitoring instruments, SPC was shown to improve medical decision making. Data was collected during an operation, all calculations were performed, and the results were graphed in real-time (on a computer screen and on a printer) both control charts for averages and standard deviations.
The foundation assumption was that the human body is a process that can be monitored with the results displayed in real-time like any other process.
