With Parliamentary approval of the Defence Review,
countries world-wide are bidding for the South African National
Defence Forces modernisation programme. The bids will include,
amongst many items, trainer and fighter aircraft, helicopters
and their related sub-systems.
Since South Africa's transition to democracy, business
and tourist travel to South Africa and neighbouring states has
substantially increased (19 airlines served South Africa pre 1974
as opposed to 70+ currently)
SA Tourism board (SATOUR) figures indicate that foreign
tourism to SA has increased by 35% in the last year. South Africa
is a fast growing airline hub for connections into Africa
and to Indian Ocean islands.
Imminent privatisation of SA public utilities is
set to attract major foreign investment.
The Commercial Aviation association of Southern Africa
(CAASA) founding organisers of the airshow have joined forces
