What year is my Arctic Cat?

The FIRST digit is the key on 60s and 70s sleds...

Early Cats had serial numbers as: 1967 = 7-xxxxxx, '68 = 8-xxxxxx, '69 = 9-xxxxxx; not to be confused with motor designations: P-12, P-22, P-8, etc.

Most other sleds including the 70s are coded by the FIRST digit. Examples: 1970 = 0xxxxxx, '71 = 1xxxxxx, '72 = 2xxxxxx, etc.

Isn't the VIP Panther a rare collectible?

The VIP myth...."the VIP was made one year and is a rare sled"....actually the VIP was produced in 1973 and 1974, for a total of 7,977 units. The sled made it to the DEALERS in 1974-75. Of the the 19 models produced in 1973, the VIP was #12 in the ranking of most units produced. The "rarest" sleds in 1973...Alley Cat, not even listed on the production sheets, Formula II & EXT 650 (200), El Tigre 290 (75). However, as a collectible, the VIP was loaded with accessories (even a lighter),came in a non-cat color (an off brown)and used a hydraulic drive system rather than clutching that was quite unique.
