Osiyo, and Welcome to the Family. I'm Day Starr, a Wolf Clan, Onondaga/Cherokee/Black/Hakka Woman. I am also the editor of "Back To The Blanket" a monthly Cherokee/Native American journal. Evergreen (Atsina) and I have been publishing BTTB for eleven years now.

In the past, when our Grandmothers and Grandfathers returned to their traditions after trying other ways, it was said (as an insult) that they had gone "back to the blanket". We publish this journal in the spirit of those ancestors, to show our honor and love, and to continue the struggle.

While it is clear to us that we cannot live in the past, it is equally clear that what many call "progress" is destroying Families, Nations and Mother Earth. We believe that our Native American cultures and traditions, as well as the cultures and traditions of the Indigenous people of the World, hold the answers to many of today's problems. Our traditional Cherokee society gave us a harmonious perspective on life. Our women were respected, our children were wanted, our spiritual and governmental leaders were Honorable. Our traditional political systems allowed everyone to speak out, to have their say.

We hope that you will add your voice to ours. Let us know how you feel about what you read in our pages. Like life itself, some of our words are sweet and some are bitter. Keep us posted on what is happening with you, and our sisters and brothers in your part of the country. Make sure we have your birthday so we can celebrate your Birthday Moon in our pages.

We are living in a time of Coming Together, of Nation Building. And remember, everyone is Indigenous to some part of Mother Earth, and the Circle is composed of us All. Hope to hear from you soon!
