"Education today needs to help develop the skills in an individual to take initiative, think about the information they are given, challenge and question it and evaluate its quality and value. Knowledge needs to be applied creatively to problem-solving to create new knowledge. The learner then needs to be able to reflect on what they have learned."

(if you haven't looked at the ECA, it might be worth doing so now)
I was surprised to see the above aside in Learning Object 4.6.0.1 - the introduction to the Rotisserie activity. It was reassuring, too, though. I've looked at the ECA but I haven't done much more than that so I need to get things moving. I plan to use this blog as a "thinking aloud" area for the next month or so. October 9 is the deadline.
Of course, the comment might just be a bit of wry, academic rub-salt-in-the-wounds humour.

done it!
Well, my TMA04 (for what it is worth) has gone (uploaded I mean).
Just like to thank all my group colleagues for links and comments that have been very useful!
Off to the beach for a couple of days. Back online on Monday!

I mentioned a Samuel Pepys blog (see entry below) and Sali commented:
"I really love the fact that todays (yesterdays) DAY is used in the blog, to help make it live
Also the links to people - where others can add comments, suggestions - although we don't know their credentials, it still adds a huge amount of insight"
the point Sali makes about people's credentials is a very important one, I think. It's importance is not limited to Pepys' diary/blog, but touches on so much internet research.
Let me expand....
I'm preparing TMA04, in which I know I have to include references. I have plenty of materials I can refer to but a lot of this stuff was collected by doing key word searches using Google.

posting comments and linking to

Skimming through other H806 people's blogs, I notice that there is a feeling that (my paraphrase) - we're only reading and writing these blogs because it's part of the course requirements and we want to pass
The thought has crossed my own mind, I must admit, but in his blog Martin Smith says: "The main role that I see for blogs is as an area for quiet reflection on how the course is going and so on."
I agree with Martin and I do think that, although we are blogging because we have been told to blog, it has added an extra (more relaxed) dimension.
August is a bad time for it, mind you.

to blog or not to blog?
I've just come across the following blog.
http://www.pepysdiary.com
In a certain sense it's not an authentic blog. The text was written 340 years ago but I think it shows the amazing things that you can do with blogging software.
I got to it via this BBC news article:

Blogging LO
This Blogging LO (would it really count as an LO?) is based on David Kinsey's blog.
Tiziana Bordi asked somewhere about blogs and intellectual property rights. I don't know what the rules or netiquette of using other people's blogs are. I hope David doesn't mind!

Back online
Back at work and H806ing for a couple of days.
I noticed that Pui appears in the "most recently updated blogs". Well done! (There's also a blog called "Rantings of a Ryan" but that's got nothing to do with me!)
I noticed, too, that both Pui and Sook refer to the way we (as a group) have interacted more since we've been blogging. I also think this is true.
Why might this be true?
- I reckon (and I've touched on this elsewhere) it may be to do with the fact that our blogs do not occupy an "official space". (This is my blog, so if what I say here sounds silly, never mind).

Look at me!
Just being silly and experimenting with images.
Look at me!
It's desperately hot here in Naples so I'm off out of here for a few days. Back online on Sunday!
