LNER 4472 Flying Scotsman (UK)
4472 Flying Scotsman was the first Gresley Class A3 3-cylinder express passenger locomotive built by London and North Eastern Railway in 1923. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. In 1928, it hauled the first non-stop train from King's Cross to Edinburgh. This was the longest non-stop run in the world.
Flying Scotsman was withdrawn from service by British Railways in 1963 and was sold for preservation. Over 70 similar locomotives were scrapped, leaving Flying Scotsman as the sole survivor of its class.
