The church of Thyatira

Revelation

'These things saith the Son of God ,who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; I know thy works, and charity (love), and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more that the first'(Rev2:18-19).

you have already read what it is to have eyes like a flame of fire. every servant of God should have a similar understanding of Christ. He is not only the son of God who laid down His life for us; but also One Who discerns our intentions and purposes. We must look straight into His eyes, so that the may guide us by His eyes. Eyes, like unto a flame of fire ,are able to see through darkness. so, nothing is hidden from the eyes of the Lord. He needs no light to see what is in the dark.

The Lord says,' I know'. Yes, He knows everything concerning us, our works, charity, service, faith and patience. He not only sees the good things ,but also the faults and failures.

'Feet are like fine brass' speak of strength. God is zealous and unfaltering in Judgment. He will not overlook sin, although He may not punish immediately. we must judge ourselves. If we are not to be judged with the world (1Corinthians11:21-32)

Reproach

'Notwithstanding  I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel. which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. and I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not'(Rev2:20-21

The church of Thyatira had a special quality distinct form the other churches ----LOVE. therefore they had works of Love. but their love turned unto lust and led them into fornication because they failed to preserve their love in holiness.

The spirit of Jezebel was at work in this church, tolerating wrong doctrines. Jezebel ,Ahab's wife was idolatrous and wicked, misleading the children of Israel to worship strange Gods such as Baal and Ashtaroth. Although Jezebel was dead long ago, the spirit of Jezebel is still at work, and the Holy spirit alone can discern it. As Jude says, we have to be careful of such spirits entering into the Church of God in a n attempt to turn the church from getting ready for the coming of the Lord  Hear what Jude says; 'Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way and perished in the gainsaying of Core(Jude:11)

The church that wishes to go forward spiritually must discern these spirits and be free from them

Remedy

'Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation ,except they repent of their deeds. but unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come'(Rev2:22-25)

They are told to repent so that they may escape the tribulation. Though it is not the will of God that anyone should be sick, yet God permits sickness because of willful offences, which we overlook. we need to repent and seek His face, then healing will follow according to the promise which says,'......If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt to that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians; for I a m the Lord that healeth thee' (Exodus15:26)

However, there were some in this church who were not caught in this trap of satan and were innocent of the depths which satan tried to lure them. such were asked to hold fast that which they had. 'but that which ye have already hold fast till I come'. we must abide in His love and preserve all the blessings and the good works performed in our life (Phil1:6)

Reward

'And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end , to him will I give power over the nations; And he shall rule them will a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers; even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star'(Rev2:26-28)

our intimate fellowship with the Lord makes us joint heirs with Christ who grants us power to rule over the nations, during the millennial kingdom.

Christ is 'the morning star' (Rev22:16). To receive the 'morning star', therefore means ,Christ becoming our all-in-all. St Paul explains his aim in the life thus; yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord; for whom i have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung that I may win Christ (Phil3:8)
