The North Thompson Indian Band is located on 1521.7 hectares; services five reserves; and is home to 230 aboriginals with another 246 living off the reserve. This is one of the most independent bands in the Central Interior due to a stable staff with a high degree of skill and educational background. Most services to members are in place and are of high quality. The housing program is excellent with the band assuming all responsibility as the contractor. The reserve was allotted by the Joint Reserve Commission on July 5, 1877. The band is part of the Salishan linguistic group. The reserve is accessible by gravel road. Water is supplied to some dwellings on the reserve by pipe, while others have wells and reservoirs. Septic tanks are utilized for sewage disposal. Police protection, postal services, and health care are provided in Barriere. Facilities available on the reserve include an administration building, a recreation hall, a women's club, a church, a school, a workshop building, a garage, and an elder's home. Economic activities include the North Thompson Feed Lot Ltd., logging, the Salmonid Enhancement project, a raspberry farm, and a construction company.
