But then the ref's called a multitude of penalties against the renegades and Revelstoke picked up their game. Adam Prescott's two power-play goals gave Revelstoke a commanding 5-3 lead and they would hold on for the win and thus advance to the championship non-contact bantam "C" Championship Game.
Adam Prescott was Revelstoke's M.V.P. while Double M Matt Merritt was their Player Of The Game. Pavle Djuricanin was the Renegades M.V.P. of the game and Thomas Rensleigh was their Richmond's Player Of The Game
The Richmond Renegades where denied winning any championship this year. But they could still savalge their up and down funny season with a victory in their last game of the season; the 3rd. place game.
The Renegades found out that the team that they would be playing in their final game of the tournament is the team in which they started the tournament off with; the Vernon Thrashers. The last game these two met was a very close electrifying battle with the Renegades scoring 3 unanswered goals in the third , including the winner with 30 seconds left, to win the game 4-3. This game would prove to be similar, but only in the first two periods.
Jeremy Everson got the puck and passed it to Aaron Dyson who sliced and diced his way on net and scored the first goal of the game to give his Vernon squad a 1-0 lead. Than , Ramsey Pretty made a save and passed the puck to Big Country Matthew Van Deventer who then in toe got the puck to slick puck handler Yong Mim Jimmy Kim. Kim took the puck and scated a little and than passed it to Micheal Hartmann who shot blocker side on the Vernon Goalie Adam Maxnuk. The puck went slammen' into the net and the game was all tied up at 1. Soon thereafter , the Thrashers got another goal and where once again up by one. Than Christopher Bergmann's stellar defence play was rewarded as he assisted on another goal by Micheal Hartmann. Bergmann had passed the puck to Yong Mim Kim who took a short scate and then fired a pass to Hartmann who went in on the goalie and scored his second goal of the game. Once again the game was all tied up.
In the second period both teams where playing stong defencive hockey and the score remained tied untill Thrasher-killer Gaelen Mogan took a Pavle Djuricanin pass from center ice and Mogan moved on into Thrasher goalie teritory and bada-bong-bada-bang, Richmond had it's first lead of the game; 3-2! The Renegades Played very strong after this goal ; especially in the third period!
The whole 15 Minutes of the third period was dominated by the Richmond Renegades. The Renegades had about a dozen and a half shots on Vernon goalie Maxnuk while Renegade goalie Pretty only faced a mere 2 shots!! Adam Maxnuk may be one of the best goalies in Bantam C Non-Contact as he made save after save ; robery after robery to prevent Richmond from runnig away with the game. But with 4 Minutes remaining Dominic Jugovic battled for the puck along the boards and got control of it and than went behind the net and did a no-look Gretzky-esq type pass to streaking AJ McKenzie who barried the puck five-hole on an exhausted Maxnuk. This was Richmond's insurance goal and everybody was ready to celebrate the victory. Just before the final seconds of the Richmond Renegades season ticked down, Mike Blackmore passed the puck to AJ McKenzie who scated with the puck up to the Vernon Blue Line and than shot it into the empty Thrasher goal for his second goal of the game. The Richmond Renegades won their last game of the year 5-2 and thus ended there season in style.
After the game, Micheal Hartmann was named the Renegades M.V.P.of the game and Matthew Van Deventer was named Renegade's Player Of The Game. Mark Griffen was named Thasher's M.V.P. and Esben Madsen was named Vernon's Player Of The Game.
Durring the post-game ceremonies, each player from Richmond received there 3rd. Place Trophies. Than just before the Zamboni came, Renegade coaches Bob Blackmore and Charlie Campbell got the team together for a few pictures. Team manager Jay Van Deventer was the photographer.
It was a fitting way to end a great season. Though the Renegades didn't win any championships in the regualer season; Burnaby Winter Club won that, in the Playoffs; Once again Burnaby Winter Club took home those honours, and the Spring Tournament; Micheal Martin's Triple Overtime Goal gave the Kamloop Nicola Sports Physio that acalade, the Renegades where a Championship-Quality Team. There where a lot of ups and downs, but far more ups than downs. The most important part is that every player on the team got better in every game that they played. Whether it was offence , defence or checking, there was improvement in every game. Along with their 3rd place trophies, The 1999-2000 Minor Ice Hockey Bantam C Non-Contact Richmond Renegades will take with them a multitude of great memories and many triumphs as well. It was a fantastic season !!! - And it went out like a classic with a 5-2 Victory over the Thrashers. Good luck to all and may the Force be with you, Live long and Prosper and happy summer golphing days!! 5 Months Till Next Season Starts !!!!
