Hot off an 9-3 triumph over Vancouver on Saturday Night , the Renegades took control of the battle early and surprised the laid-back Rockets. Mid-way through the first , Renegade goalie Shawn Scott saved a shot and passed it on to A.J. McKenzie's stick . McKenzie scated a little before passing the puck off to Jay Howard. Howard picked up speed just outside of the red face off line and dashed to the Rocket's end and scored a beauty of an wrist shot above Rocket's goaltender Ian Whittaker's Arms . The Renegades where up 1-0 ! It didn't take long for the Rockets to reply however as they scored a minute n'half later at 5:45 of the first. A little over two minutes later , the Renegades where once again applying pressure in the Rockets end . It seemed like the Renegades had a power-play as they where passing the puck all around . Finally Jay Howard got the puck off of an Darcy Pi and Dominic Jugovic passing play and roofed it once again on the dumbfounded Whittaker at 3:23 of the first . The Renegades where outplaying the upstart Richmond Rockets and took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission !
The Renegades continued to apply pressure in the second and had numerous scoring chances but Ian Whittaker and his Rocket Defense-Man stood on their heads thwarting the Renegade's Chances. The Rockets became frustrated and took some unsportsman-like penalties and the Renegades found themselves in an familiar position , the 5 0n 3 Power Play ! The Renegades love this style of play as it gives them many scoring chances ! Well the Renegades passed the puck around like a bunch of snake charmers and finally the puck went flying into the net , courtesy of none other than Jay Howard ! This was a natural-hatrick for Jay and a big 3-1 lead for the Renegades with half the game over ! Darcy Pi and Carl Chia picked up assists on the 5 on 3 Power Play Goal. The Renegades looked good , everything was going their way and a 3-game winning streak looked a shure -bet So the Renegades started crusen' round the ice and let down their guard , thus Queue the Rockets comeback.
At 4:28 , about a minute after a goal was disallowed for them cause a player was in the crease , the Richmond C-4 Rockets scored to make the game close . 40 seconds later , the Rockets scored again and now the game was tied. The Rockets started playing like the League-Point leaders that they are and with 41.7 seconds left in the second , the Renegades old captain' Matt Greenwood went crashing into the net with a one-timer that saw the puck go into the net and gave the Rockets a 4-3 lead ! This was the score during the second intermission. The Renegades coach Rob Howard organized the troops and tried to encourage them to hold off the Rockets speed and return to their ways of the first half of the game.
Well the Renegades tried hard , but the Rockets where firing on all cylinders by now . Just under two minutes into the third , at 13:03 the Rockets scored to take a 5-3 lead . Under two minutes later , at 10:25 C-4 scored yet again and took an commanding 6-3 lead over the fledgling Renegades. The Renegades tried their hardest to stop the Rockets 5 consecutive-goal onslaught but where overmatched and seemed tired in the third. At 3:07 Jay Howard intercepted the puck and got it to Vincent Forseberg who in-turn passed the puck to a streaking A.J. McKenzie who did his famous one-timer shot and that hit the net straight on ! The goal made the game close again and rejuvenated the Renegades . For the next minute n'half , Richmond C-5 gave the Rockets all they could handle with an seemingly endless barrage of slap shots from Renegade D-Man Gaelen Mogan .But Ian Whittaker was robben the Renagades with his stick and pads. Than the referee called a crucial penalty on the Renegades and this spelled the end of the game . The Rockets held on to win 6-4 . The Renegades 2-game winning streak was over.
The Renegades played real well for the first half of this game and pretty good in the last half of the third period but they couldn't control the Rockets for the rest of the allotted time frame. The Renegades had a 3-1 lead mid-way into the second before surcoming to the Rockets goal-scoring antics.
Jay Howard led point-wise with an natural-hatrick and one assist for 4 points. A.J. McKenzie had a goal and an assist for two points , Darcy Pi had two assists for 2 points while Dominic Jugovic , Carl Chia , Vincent Forsberg and Goalie Shawn Scott had an assist each for 1 point. Gaelen Mogan played strong on defense. The Renegades are now 6-9-1 for 13 points in 15 games played . The Christmas break is upon us so no game is scedules for 2n' half weeks . The Renegades played really well against the powerfull Rockets considering they where missing two all-star players in Daniel Pi and No.1 Centre Men Tim Lin , who's grandfather passed away and Tims gone to his grandfather's homeland for the funeral. The Rockets also had an advantage in lines as they had 5 more players than the Renegades , alas one more line . So the Renegades only had two lines with the Rockets having 3 .
Durring the game , the Renegades first line consisted of Dominic Jugovic Centreing Darcy Pi and Jay Howard with Vincent Forsberg and Tyler Epp on the D . Yong Min Kim was the second-line centre with A.J. McKenzie and Carl Chia . Chad Oyhenart and Gaelen Mogan charted D.
