The Renegades' playoff march begin with two games against Vancouver Midget C2 . Game one in Richmond was a close very defensive affair . Chad Oyhenart and Darcy Pi got the puck to an open Tim Lin and he popped in the first goal of the playoffs . In the second period the Thunderbirds scored twice to take the lead but early in the third Jay Howard and Lin set up Dominic Jugovic who was standing beside the T-Bird goalie and shot in the rebound . The game was tied at two and both teams showed exceptional defensive efforts . Real late in the third , Vancouver had the puck in the Renegades zone and after a flurry of action , the T-Birds scored with 26 seconds left on the clock . The Renegades' lost a heart-braker 3-2 .
Sunday afternoon at Sunset Arena was the scene of game 2. The T-birds had a full line-up of 17 players while the Renegades only had 9. None the less , game two also turned out to be an hockey action filled blockbuster ! Vancouver scored first but Vincent Forsberg got Richmond on the board. Gaelen Mogan and Oyhenart got assists. Midway through the first Daniel Pi and Jugovic where giving the T-bird defenseman fits and finally their fore-checking payed off as the bunch got the puck to Darcy Pi who one-timed the puck into the net . The Renegades where up 2-1 and things looked good...
But Vancouver came back with vengeance , scoring 3 goals in four minutes in the second period to take a 4-2 lead into the third. Both teams had some chances to score but the goalies made a few pretty saves. The two teams took their fair share of penalties in the third but none could capitalize on the power-play. With 5 minutes left in the game , Richmond had taken two penalties and was shorthanded as Vancouver had a 5 on 3 advantage . You would think that this would spell doom for the Renegades but this was actually the exact opposite. Daniel Pi went end to end and scored with 4:26 left . Two minutes later , Jugovic got out of penalty box and shot the puck down the ice . Teammate Darcy Pi scated quickly and beat the T-Bird defensemen to the puck and than passed it to a wide-open Carl Chia who tied the game . The Renegades late-third period two short handed goals was a little miracle and that salvaged a 4-4 tie.
Tuesday night in Richmond Ice Centre's Colusseum Arena , the Renegades played host to the strong Vancouver Midget C1 Thunderbirds. The Renegades had their best first period of the year scoring often on the surprised dumbfounded T-Birds goalie. Tim Lin scored the Renegades first two goals which where both assisted by Dominic Jugovic . Jay Howard made the score 3-0 . Daniel and Darcy Pi got assists and Vincent Forsberg closed out the first with a neat goal to give Richmond a commanding 4-0 lead . Vancouver scored once in the second but Tim Lin quickly replied to make it a 5-1 game. The Renegades then seemed to fall asleep in the third which was mainly controlled by Vancouver . In fact the T-Birds scored 3 unanswered goals and made it a close one . But Shawn Scott made several key saves to give the Renegades their first playoff victory this season , 5-4 !
