My Newsie, Racetrack Here I am again, sitting on the steps of the Newsboys Lodging House, waiting for Blink. I'm his girl. Me. No one else.
"Hiya Melody!" Blink says walking out the door.
"Hi Blink, how's it gonin'?" I say as he grabs me around the waist and kisses me on the cheek.
"So, What do youse wanna do taday? Wanna meet da guys?"
"Yeh, I's wannted ta meet dem for a long time." I reply.
"Alright...come on honey." Blink escourts me inside."Hey feallas! Dis is Melody. Melody, dis Mush, Snipeshooter, Skittery, Dutchy, Crutchy, Jack, and...where's Ractrack. Racetrack comes running down the stairs. "Oh hey Race...Dis is Melody, Melody, Dis is Race."
"Hiya Melody!" Race says as he smiles and sticks a cigar in his mouth. I smile back. I feel a weird fluttering feeling in my stomach and I feel I'm blushing.
"Blink, Let's go...I has ta get outside. Let's go ta Tibby's." I say pulling Blink out the door.
He puts his arm around my waist. Him and I walk off Tibby's.

We walk out of Tibby's laughing.
"Uh...Well..I forgot my mom now locks da doors 8:00 cause some crazy drunk men has been runnin' 'round our flat."
"Well...Youse can stay at da lodgin' house. There's an extra bed next to Race. Racetrack won't mind.........." Just by hearing his name my heart rate speeds up.Racetrack."O.k. Mel?"
"Ah ya-o.k" I reply, although I have no clue what he just said. We walk into the lodgin' house.
"Hey fella's Melody's gonna stay here tanite! Race...She's gonna sleep there."
"O.k. I'll help ya!" Race says throwing his cigar out. He turns down the covers and I get in. "Night."
"Night." I say as Blink bends down and kisses me on the cheek. I lie in bed wanting to turn over and look into Race's big brown eyes. But what if he sees me? I Blink's girl, but I think I'm falling in love with...oh this is crazy..but..Racetrack!

"Melody, Melody, wake up." I feel soft hands shaking me gently. I turn over and see Racetrack leaning over me.
"Melody, Blinks gone. I heard a door close and saw Blink leave."
"What? You saw him leave?"
"Yeah, comon, we should look for him." Race helps me get up. I slip on my shirt and button it up. Then I pull on my emerald green skirt. I'm really tired and cant get the buttons on my skirt buttoned. "Hey I'll get um." Races shoft hands gently button them. My heart explodes.
"Comon Racetrack, let's get goin."
"Awright." We quietly run down the stairs and out the door. The stars in the sky are like all the diamonds at Tiffany's. "Hey Melody...uh were do ya think he went?"
"Lets try Tibby's."
"But it's closed."
"He's taken my there before, after closing."
"O.k. Let's go!"
"Racetrack, could ya please slow down? Youse walkin' to fast."
"Oh ya, sure honey, I mean Melody." Ohhh! He called me honey! I could die right now!
"Here we are!" Race says as we press our faces against the cold glass window.
"Oh Racetrack! Where is he?" I ask as we turn away from the deserted room. I'm worried, but I have to admit that I like running around with Racetrack.
"Hey Melody, it's ok. Let's check da Irving Hall."
"Ya, dat's a good idea. He loves dat place."
We run down the street and into Irving Hall. I stop suddenly.
"Race, Race, Racetrack!!!!" I yell, bursting into tears.
"Wha...what is it?"
"Race! Stop it's ok! it's ok! No, it's ok." I cry even more. Race pulls Blink up by his shirt and punches him in the stomach.
"How could you?" Race yells," How could you do dis to a nice goil like Melody?" Race pushes him and then runs out the door!
"Hey wait! I'm sorry! Melody! Come back!" Blink yells as I start runnong out the door!
Race follows me and finally catches up to me. He grabs my waist and picks me and throws me over his shoulder. He carries me to a park bench, sitting me down on it.
"Racetack! Leave me alone!"
"Melody, calm down. It's ok." Race says shaking me. Oh no! Here comes Blink!
