Green Island, BC

N 54'34", W 130'42", elev. 15 feet.

Located approx. 25 miles north west of Prince Rupert B.C.

My first arrival at Green Island, near sunset. This picture is looking west, toward Dundas island in the background. To the right, out of picture range, is the Alaska panhandle, some 12 miles distant. Green Island is the northernmost light station on the British Columbia coast.

This view of Green Island is looking from the west to the east. The helipad is in the distance behind the houses. This island is also a breeding ground for seagulls. Thousands of pairs of birds nest here each year. The lightkeepers take their very 'lives' in their hands each time they venture to the helipad. The gulls are excellent marksmen, trying to discourage intrusions into the breeding areas.
