Cape Scott, BC

N 50' 47", W 128' 25", elev. 230 feet.

Located approx. 242 miles north west of Victoria B.C.,on the northwestern most point of Vancouver Island.

One of the infrequent snow storms that pass over Cape Scott during the winter and Early spring. This particular series of storms dumped almost 4 feet of snow(acumulated total) in less than 5 days. It was gone in almost the same time. The very black ominous sky behind the main light is a heavy shower of snow and rain, from a large ""CB"" cloud.

By comparison, this shows the beauty of the summer months around Cape Scott. This picture, of Guise Bay, looking west, is 2.5 km from the station, which is just over the hills in the background.

This is a recent arrival on the shores of the Cape Scott Provincial park, having just been washed up on the last tide. These 'Japanese glass fishing floats' are a highly prized treasure to hikers and lightkeepers alike. I found 4 of a similar size in the two years I was stationed there.

Another long distance traveller. This one washed ashore and was in good company. It is a very exciting thing to find for several reasons, for instance the distance it has come, the fact that it has survived all the rigors of the ocean, and the rocks, to come ashore so that a hiker , or lightkeeper, can find it and treasure it for years to come.
