Explanation of the Emblem for Critical Thinking and Metacognition

Why are the Critical Thinking Skills placed at the top of our symbolic representation (at the beginning of the short arrows)?
Answer:
i) Because you need critical thinking to first deal with all the intense information flow in todays education
ii) Because you need to apply critical thinking to realize what to do (metacognition) to develop appropriate strategies fro resulting high levels of cognition
ex: understanding analysis application

Follow the arrows for sequence (forward and in reverse) C = cognition and includes understanding, which opens the gateway to other levels of cognition

2. WHY is the long arrow going in the reverse, from cognition towards metacognition?
Answer
i) Because teaching for understanding (from the beginning) leads to high quality metacognition
ii) Teaching for understanding causes students to realize what must be done to achieve on an exam requiring higher order thinking skills
